  1. Most people would assume they start pumping at the surface, but the intake is actually placed at the greatest depth to take advantage of increased pressure creating more of a syphoning effect.

  2.  @OshineTheOranguTANK  Of course they don't permanently drain the ocean, that would cause a rise in global sea levels, and you are probably right about them using sonar panels to power the pumps, that would explain why they never film at night.
