The 'self' in the expression "self evident" isn't the one making the argument, but is directed to the phenomenon that person is describing. If something is to be self evident, it should be universally understood, not on a personal level. In other words, if it is only "self evident" _to you_, then what you are describing is clearly not "self evident".
