6:21 Our ranch growing up had 2 highly trained LGDs to protect cattle in Montana - both were Great Pyrenees. From different litters obviously so one was much older but I’ve never seen a more regimented, disciplined worker, any species. Important to note the different in domesticated GP and trained LGD Pyros. It takes half their natural lives to become properly trained by an established LGD. I wouldn’t recommend meeting a GP that is a working LGD. It’s not worth the risk. As you said, they are trained to detect threats, a human is not different. They were not our pets. They did not come in side. Bc they just don’t listen - we listen to THEM outside. They literally walk around like they run shit .. well.. bc they did. Occasionally we intentionally bonded to make sure they had our scent and knew we were ancillary to their main charge in the cattle but the amazing thing about them is if they had to, without hesitation they sacrifice their lives for their charge. And two can eliminate an advancing threat especially a bear - I can confirm first hand. Both would want to avoid that battle if possible though but the LGD are just too relentless . But it won’t come to that. Their detection system and conflict management is beyond human understanding. Later we got an emu as well and Danny Ocean couldn’t get on our property without leaving in a box. Emu had height and was deafening loud as a siren. And the great pyros wanted every bit of the smoke. Rarely a bear, god bless a poor coyote clan which would be massacred in minutes if they advanced. Net, LGDs in general are the most amazing animals I’ve ever seen in action. And Great Pyr are the gold standard in my book. Dedicated loyal workers who are fed and treated like the absolute massive and battle hardened kings they are.
