You’re watching and reading the wrong stuff then. This speaks more to the information you trusted before learning just about the most obvious and highlighted thing in climbing. People simply assume sherpas are disrespected. I’ve never truly understood where this comes from but it’s always from non-climbers. they are the most respected on the mountain as far as experiences goes considering they have the most time and it’s not even close. And to imply every Sherpa & porter summits is preposterous. But over 40% of all registered summits are sherpas when measured by single individual attempts. And when they don’t summit, they are paid to move materials between camps etc etc. it’s a job available to those in the region. But it doesn’t make it any less dignified. They are still respected but you’ll NEVER meet someone who has reached the summit disparaging a Sherpa ESPECIALLY when they reach the summit as well. Never.
