I used to work on the other side of this for the largest CPG company on the consumer insights team and we spent an enormous amount of hours attacking competitive claims. This doesn’t seem like a scam given what that invokes colloquially. I’m surprised you decided to go ahead and agree they might be a scam - or better, it “seems like it”. I imagined you’d stick to words with legal precedent given the nature of the topic. My main reaction, and Maybe I missed this part (my apologies if so), is that I can go change my name today to “lord” if I want. Then that part is satisfied. It’s roundabout and rather pedantic but certainly not illegal. There’s a legal procedure to satisfy this though it’s not what they are conveying. That also doesn’t qualify as “misleading” necessarily. Your comments re: “good faith” are fair and atleast in the US, it’s state dependent but it can’t 1. To commit a crime and/or 2. Defraud someone. That seems like a distinction of good faith to me. It seems harsh to imply this is a scam. I personally thought it was inappropriate if I were to recommend this to my audience so this isn’t a defense per say but I just object to much of the general backlash (not you - I understand what this is) solely because it’s one YouTuber embarrassed after another bc they were lazy and took a bag of money without doing research. Only now do they care. The briefs were clear and anyone putting their name on a relationship should do reasonable research if you have a platform. They made everything clear to the creators. It’s the creators who need to have a hard look at their choices. IMO
