Turbochargers function with via an oil seal bearing. This isn’t news, what is new is how many motors are running at such high compression ratios and with turbochargers. Legislative pressure intersects with consumer demand, thus we get these super low displacement very high-powered motors… that are basically slowly grenading themselves.
Physics simply dictates that oil particulate will be blown out of the exhaust. It’s just how they work, the Internal Combustion Engine, I mean.
Combine all of this with incredibly poor quality fuel standards and piston rings that are prone to acidic attack, boom: Oil burner(s). Make, model… doesn’t matter, it’s physics.
I religiously change the oil on my VW. It does burn about 1 liter of oil every 1600km. For how the vehicle performs, I absolutely can’t complain.
The hell is anybody doing driving more than 5,000 miles on a single oil change? People say VW has turned me into a mechanic, in my book this is all just basic vehicle maintenance.
Oil is cheap, motors aren’t!
