  1. The real driver is the endless flow of credit from all over the world to our universities. It is mathematically impossible to keep up on a timeline measured in decades. Sure, you can retire in Massachusetts if you’re over 15 Million flush but if you’re that good with money the state has to offer the utility to justify the cost of living: and by state I don’t mean government. I mean the place, physically. The new arrivals will see this clearly, much faster than they have anticipated. It is excruciatingly expensive to live in this state, irrespective of income bracket. It may hurt less with more zeros, but it’s not a joke. If you’re pulling down less than 100k a year, it’s time to leave if you can. If you can’t, it’s going to get much harder for some time. UNLESS WE TAX THOSE SCHOOLS. 🎉 Harvard has an endowment fund that dwarfs the GDP of nations, for example. Yet cross the bridges into Everett, Lynne and Revere and it’s a whole different world.
