  2. Automobiles are durable goods. Personal computers in terms of economics, are toasters. I’ve been privileged enough to have my home computer be top of the line my whole life because I can build them; but I’ve repaired the whole spectrum of personal computers and lemme tell you, most peoples machines are very poor quality and have a tremendous amount of bloatware. They’re an afterthought. So, I would say that yes… if you’re not buying unlocked components, it’s already happened. My .02 (Seriously, go try and use a $300 ‘laptop.’)
