  1. Because a car is a piece of Emergency Equipment. While you may indeed use it everyday, there may well be a day when what you need to use it for is a very serious drive because you’re in a very serious situation. Not everybody with a fast horse is a criminal. I agree that we need to do something about how fast these new powertrains can move a vehicle: My suggestion is a tiered licensure system because the difference in handling between car that’s 180KW and a car that’s 500KW is intergalactic and you should need a special license to operate above 400KW. It is a huge safety issue. Everything changes with the power levels seen out of newer cars (Kia motors ships cars to the lot with 320HP+ stock) and it is a serious safety issue everywhere.
