@fz8691 If given the choice I'd rather Canada take more Indian immigrants than more African or Mideastern immigrants who are responsible for the bulk of the crime, violence and general problems in the country. If you could remove those two groups and native people from Canada, that's probably like 70-80% of the nation's problems disappearing overnight.

Even if you theoretically have the 'best' immigrants coming to settle in your country who are hard working, peaceful and non-violent, you still need to bring them in at low numbers to integrate them properly and to not have them overwhelm you society, your infrastructure and your culture.

@gooseboy4025 Unless Ukraine suddenly gets orders of magnitude more support from the west or Russia collapses, it seems extremely unlikely that Ukraine will ever fully get all of its territory back.

@Lando-kx6so Very ironic since Ireland has a history of being a massive country of emmigration Not at anywhere near the numbers that we've seen Africans, Mideastern and South American people come to western countries. How many Irish people immigrated to the US in its entire history compared to a year or two of South Americans settling in the US whether legally or illegally? Not even on the same planet in terms of numbers when you have hundreds of thousands if not millions coming up from South America every year.

JG-MV Unfortunately most people use inherently racist arguments such as Muslims immigrants have no place here I think more people would be open to Muslim immigrants if they didn't constantly create discourse and disruption in nearly every nation that they populated in large numbers. I live in Canada and Asian Canadians have lived here since almost the beginning of this country's creation and guess what? Throughout its entire history Asians have caused very little crime, violence and problems in general. Compare that to people from Africa and the Mideast who have only begun to increase in population here in the past 20-30 years and unfortunately there's also been a massive increase in crime, violence and general discourse in our society. Any western country that has taken in significant numbers of Asian people has seen that group contribute and help make that nation become better. Any western country that has taken in significant amounts of Africans and Muslims has seen their nations get WORSE and more dangerous and not better. Gee I CAN'T IMAGINE WHY people would have issues and a dislike for some groups of people compared to other groups of people. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

To be fair are there any major parties in Ireland that were against mass immigration? Usually its small parties who are most vocal about immigration while the bigger parties are in favor it no matter where they land on the political spectrum. Here in Canada the Liberals certainly have rolled out the red carpet for immigrants/refugees/asylum seekers in recent years by allowing 2+ MILLION foreigners to settle in Canada in the past 2 years, but even if the Conservative party wins a majority in the next election there's no indication that they want to drastically reduce immigration numbers either. The only party that does want to dramatically reduce immigrant numbers is a small party with no seats in parliament and is seen as being 'far right' and 'anti-minority' by many people. So even if there is a party that does want to reduce immigrant numbers here, they don't have any power to do so when they likely won't ever gain even a few seats in government let alone enough seats to make a difference.
