@dougcoombes8497 Operation Market Garden was a colossal intelligence failure by the British, they dropped the 1st Airborne division into an area held by an SS Panzer Corps. There was no way for the lightly armed British to hold their positions and no way for Allied armor to get to them in time. To be fair if 1st Airborne were dropped closer to Arnhem bridge and most of the division actually made it to the bridge rather than just a battalion or so, they very likely could've held until XXX Corps arrived. Frost's battalion was able to hold for over 3 days alone, surrounded and with barely any resupply against a much larger German force. Imagine if most of the 1st Airborne had been in the city around the bridge and especially if the allies were dropping supplies on their positions? Most likely they would've held out until XXX Corp came to relieve them. Market Garden had a number of mistakes and yet despite all those errors and miscalculations, it still very nearly succeeded.

@dougcoombes8497 If most of 1st Airborne had actually made it to Arnhem and the bridge, they most likely would've been able to hold out until XXX Corp arrived to relieve them. Frost's battalion alone was able to hold on at the bridge for 3 days while surrounded and cut off from everyone and with no resupply or reinforcements against a much larger and heavily armed enemy.
