@ElCapitan12 Why waste so much time and money building this tunnel under the 401 when you could just spend that money on buying the 407 which could immediately be opened to the public?

This kind of massive project could only be built by the Chinese who have been building tons of mega projects in recent years that makes this project seem like a relatively easy one in comparison. If we give this project to Chinese construction companies I would trust it would get built, but if we give it to a Canadian company then it will take decades and even then it might not get finished.

@dtgpsinc.4289 If it actually costs 40 billion or so to buy back the 407 then do it! That's still wayyyyy cheaper than building that stupid tunnel that would take decades to finish and you can keep the tolls in place but lower them so that more people will use it and that 40 billion won't take forever to be repaid at which time it will make money for the province.

I would only believe this tunnel project could actually be built in a relatively reasonable amount of time and at a reasonable budget ONLY if it were given to Chinese construction companies to build it. After seeing the kind of mega projects they've built in China in just a few short years, I would only trust them to build such a huge project as this. Giving this job to any domestic construction companies means it will NEVER get built, but it would still have cost billions of dollars in wastage with nothing to show for.

If our politicians REALLY wanted people to drive less, then they would build better communities than car dependent urban sprawl. Build more communities that are walkable and bikable that don't require reliance on cars OR expensive transit to get around your area. That's a much better choice than building poorly laid out neighborhoods that are car and transit dependent to get around.

@dtgpsinc.4289 Whether you like it or not trucks are required to move all the resources and supplies that are needed to build and maintain a civilized society and that will never change. They have to drive somewhere whether it be on the 401 or elsewhere.
