There's no reason to open up the green belt when there's already so much undeveloped land to begin with that needs to have increased density rather than having single detached homes built on it. We should be looking to build more projects like the Downtown Markham development where you have a self-sufficient, self-contained high density housing development where people can walk or bike to wherever they want to go rather than have to drive.

@jumbome7420 I think its YOU that doesn't know what the green belt is and why we don't need to build on most of it when there's already so much other land that we can build on and more importantly we don't even need as much land to build on if we forced all developers to start building high density projects like Downtown Markham. And this doesn't even include all the areas in and around the GTA and surrounding regions like Pickering, Oshawa, Oakville etc. we can vastly increase the density of by building higher density housing/commercial projects. And really I don't even know why many people would want to live in low density housing when those communities are so boring, empty and sparse in having anything to do and you have to drive everywhere instead of being able to walk and bike around.

@jumbome7420 Ford wanted to swap some parts of the green belt out for his developer buddies that had bought those lands and supposedly put back land from other areas in exchange. The thing is you still haven't answered the basic answer of WHY its even necessary to do this other than lining the pockets of his buddies when there's TONS of land elsewhere that could be used to build housing that's much more suitable in addition to increasing density and curbing urban sprawl.

@jumbome7420 WTF are you talking about 'there's no viable land'?!?!!?! There's plenty of land within the GTA right now that you can build housing on that will take many years to use up. A few blocks away from my home there use to be a strip mall that's been around for at least several decades that was closed down a few years ago and they built townhouses on that space. A few kilometers away from me there's another plot of land on the corner that they're now building a midrise condo on. The point is there are A TON of spaces within Scarborough, Pickering, Oshawa, Etobicoke, Markham etc. that are pretty sparse and could be filled with condos and townhouses that right now have empty old buildings or are deserted parking lots that are rarely used. You know what the problem is with building on these kinds of plots of land? You can't build many large detached single family homes on plots of land like this. You know where you can build a ton of homes like that? In large tracts of empty land outside the GTA. So the GTA and Southern Ontario isn't lacking in space if you want to build highrise condos and townhouses to house large amounts of people. We have plenty of it to build that type of housing. On the otherhand you can't build large detached homes in quiet neighborhoods within the GTA which is why Ford and his developer buddies want to build on empty land outside of the city.

@jumbome7420 You still haven't answered my questions, but that's OK.

@jumbome7420 Why don't you tell me what supposedly I don't know about the green belt then?
