Alexander is definitely in a league of his own when it comes to turning Russian losses and setbacks into something positive. Putin himself should be writing fat bonus checks to him for all the hard work he's doing for trying to cover for him.

@thememe986 War is about more than territorial gains. If you go all out for a small territorial gain all you're really doing is wasting valuable resources. All these supposed 'small territorial gains' has added up to being alot of ground and towns/cities being taken back. If it were the Russians taking the exact amount of territory and it were the Ukrainians that were running away Alexander would be having neverending orgasms at all the gains his cherished Russians were making in just a little over a month. And also war is about beating your enemy and making them run and the Ukrainians are doing plenty of that the past month or so.

Well the flow is going Ukraine's way and in many places Russia isn't pushing back much and that flow is slowing becoming a flood. Could anyone have seen the Ukrainians moving close towards Kherson city even a week ago? And yet here they are doing just that.

@tds187 Russia has been patient. But mobilisation is deep in force. And any gains Ukraine has made in the past month will be quickly recovered by Russia. How does it make sense to not try and stop the bleeding now instead of losing more territory that you will have a hard time getting back? Also what about the Russians already there? Are they going to be simply sacrificed for nothing? And Russia is about ready to step up in the next phase in these newly Russian territories. What next phase? Sending poorly trained and equipped troops to the frontlines to take a bullet?

@tds187 Russia has no urgency because time is irrelevant. Russia can manage this conflict as long as it needs. And as cold weather comes, Russia is fully armed and clothed and prepared. Ukraine is not. So Russia has no need for urgency. Russia doesn't seem to be training their new recruits much before sending them to Ukraine and even if they are I doubt it will be better than the training that the Ukrainian troops are now getting from NATO instructors. In the long run Ukraine will get ever increasingly better trained and armed soldiers while Russia will likely be throwing worse and less trained troops in more and more. Also I don't know why the Ukrainians wouldn't be able to fight in the cold when they share the same climate as Russia does.

@tds187 the difference is in Russia there is a compulsory period of military service after high school. Where those in Ukraine that were mobilised was simply putting a gun in the hand of a civilian and sending them off. Maybe at the beginning of the war when Ukraine was desperate they were giving guns out to anyone who wanted to fight, but ever since then as the war has gone on that hasn't been the case. I've watched alot of combat footage and most Ukrainian troops I've seen in the last couple of months are pretty well armed and equipped and when it comes to their training well the proof is on the battlefield. If the current units of Ukrainian soldiers were poorly trained I doubt they would've been able to make all the progress in that they have in the past few weeks. Contrast that to the slow crawl forward by Donbas forces the past few months. Some get trained by NATO. But vs Russia, historically one of if not THE best of land militaries, 3-4 weeks training is useless when all of Russias mobilised have minimum a year experience and generally far longer. Russia has NEVER been a great land military at least not in the last 100 years. They survive and win because of their numbers, because of production and because of the size of their country. Put Russia's entire population in WWII into western Europe and they would've suffered the same fate as the French and have surrendered in a few short weeks. The fact is the Russians were lucky that they live in a country that is so huge as to be impossible to be completely conquered and its saved their bacon a number of times. As for training, I'll take NATO training over whatever crap training system the Russians have anytime. Again the results on the battlefield speak for themselves where the Ukrainians fighting well and are able to be flexible and to act quickly according to the change circumstances on the ground. The Russians have yet to show they can do the same outside of maybe a few units which is why their attacks are so simple and their defense is so weak now that they're getting pushed. We'll see in the coming weeks and months if all these new recruits will be any better but it seems doubtful. On the otherhand NATO is ramping up the number of Ukrainians who are getting trained and equipped by them and I'll put money on them performing better than the Russians on the battlefield anyday.
