@Maynard0504 people forget that the US is a very unique country when it comes unifying an enormous number of people under a common national identity across an (almost) entire continent. Except that the US is very far from being unified. In fact its people are more split up and divided more than they ever have been compared to even 20-30 years ago.

@skinnylong2023 Maybe in the past, but most definitely 100% NOT in the present where everyone is encouraged to be themselves whether it be gender, sexuality, religious, political, race/ethnicity etc. This is why the US, Canada and other western nations are losing their identity when the people who immigrate to western countries far too often don't take on the culture and customs of their new homeland.

@Baphomets_Kid The US is VERY FAR from being anywhere near uniform. Far too many people are more interested in supporting their tribe or group or organization than they are of working together towards a common good. Far too many people are messing up the US with all the SJW super woke crap that many people in parts of the country are fighting back against. And these same SJWs far too often see everything in black and white with no greys or context. Anyone who compares today to America even 20-30 years ago can't possibly say with a straight face that the US is more unified now than it was back then. Whether its politicians, the media or the general population, seemingly everyone and everything is much more divided than it was when I was growing up.

@Baphomets_Kid Actually I'm an American who's lived in Canada for many years now and unfortunately all the bullshit that's been happening in the US in recent years has greatly affected Canadian politics and its people as well. And no I neither support the Republicans or Democrats because they're both shit. The same goes for pretty much every Canadian party here that are all trash as well. The interesting thing is that I use to be a huge supporter of the Democrats when I was in the states and then the Liberals when I moved to Canada, but now both parties have gone so far off the deep end with their woke crap that I can no longer support either. And you're completely wrong in that the SJW crap DOES divide and DOES NOT unify people because it does exactly the OPPOSITE of what you're saying. Woke crap makes EVERYTHING matter and makes everything someone does or says be subject to being scrutinized under a microscope with little to no context. Who wants to live in a shit society like that where people are always out for blood? Just look at what's happening to Russians these days where these same SJWs have turned their eyes onto them and are trying to cancel and make everything Russian disappear. We're talking about Russian musicians getting pulled from performing, Russian businesses being affected and even regular Russians living in western countries who have nothing to do with Putin being told that they're evil and need to repent. THAT'S how messed up SJW culture is these days. Let me tell you in case you haven’t noticed, the young generation is no longer majority non-Hispanic white and Christianity has been going down for decades now. You say that as if its a good thing when it in fact it spells very bad things for many western countries.

@treydonnell2871 The newer immigrants who have arrived to western countries largely DO NOT love their new country and definitely ARE NOT fitting in as previous immigrants did. It USE TO BE about integrating into your new homeland and learning the culture and customs of that country. Now that isn't necessary anymore which is why the US and Canada are so fractured these days when every group of people are looking out for their own tribes all the time. How do you build a stronger country and work towards common goals when everyone is looking out for their own?

Because China isn't a small backwater country that the US can mess around with if they feel like it. Why do you think China is spending so much on its military and security forces? Because it wants to maintain stability and not be bullied by other countries ever again after having been bullied for so long in its history. Between having nukes and an ever increasingly more modern military, no one is going to be screwing around with the Chinese again and especially trying to dictate to them as to what they should do inside their nation.

@forumics there is no perfect style of government but as of today democracy is still the best form of government. china could benefit from putting the best people ahead via democracy than parachuting leaders into positions of power just like russia and putin. Where do you live? Because in places like Canada and the US they're DEFINITELY NOT necessarily putting the best and most qualified into important positions so that things are getting done. Just look at how often now positions in government are filled based on gender and diversity rather than talent and skill? Heck Trudeau in Canada INSISTED that his cabinet of ministers be a 50/50 male/female split regardless if they were the best or not and that some of them of course had to be minorities as well. That to me doesn't sound much better than what China might be doing in their country and looking at the results of what China has accomplished in the past several decades compared a place like India, I'd say the Chinese method has been much, MUCH more successful.

@SineN0mine3 Traditional media still had problems with bias and bad research, but it was never as bad as the state we're in now without it. Traditional media is just as bad if not worse these days. Almost all major media outlets are heavily left leaning and progressive and anyone expressing opinions or criticisms of them or certain issues or specific demographics of people is immediately suppressed and/or attacked. Just look at how much censorship Youtube has when it comes to stating obvious facts like who's involved in the majority of violent crimes in western nations. You get your comments erased or catch a ban for a day or two just like that even though you can't run away from the facts.

@wazzupdj98d61 It reeks of the dogma that some who study geopolitics have, which is that Democracy in China, or Russia, or some other currently authoritarian nation is impossible or even undesireable. Democracy in China is impossible and would never work. All you have to do is look to India 'the world's largest democracy' and see how well its working for them. Imagine if instead India had a government similar to China's running their nation all these years? They would be doing so much better right now. Heck even democracy in western countries is largely bullshit and often doesn't work either. How many times do people complain about only having the same couple of parties to vote for which are both shit choices, but you vote for the less shittier choice? In many places I think it'd be better just to have one government that runs things and can get shit done rather than having several parties debating neverendingly about doing something without ever doing it.

Except we don't even have the money to support all our existing Canadians properly. Why not help those first before thinking about bringing in hundreds of thousands if not millions more people?

Governing 1.4 billion people under one state creates too much challenges, which is the reason why Chinese resorted to authoritarian rule and oppression against will of people. I would argue that if China broke up into several or more pieces that the parts that are now not very rich would be doing even worse. If poor areas in China become their own nations, how would they do better all of a sudden? Are you assuming the world will right away pour in money and resources to help lift these places out of poverty? Whether people like to hear it or not, the most stable and most prosperous China is one that is centrally run like it is now. Breaking it up and trying to implement some form of democracy would only cause more problems than it solves.

@acgdjjj Which regions of China are you talking about that haven't seen at least some decent development in recent years? Sure the eastern part of China may have seen much more development and prosperity, but its not like the other parts of China haven't seen a rise in standards of living. Far from great, but far from horrible. Also we've already seen in China's past how having multiple governments/warlords etc. running their own parts of the country have turned out, namely really badly. I doubt things will be any different now. China being run by a central government with a purpose and direction for the entire country and its people is far better than having separate nations all looking out for their own interests. Things are far from perfect in China, but they'd be much, MUCH worse off if they weren't a single country run by one government and they definitely wouldn't be the world power that they are now.

Nobody wants to work for some vague notion of a greater good. I would say that's exactly what has happened in places like Canada and the US. I live in Canada and most everyone is in it for themselves or their tribe or organization or some other group they're associated with. Barely anyone wants to come together to make Canada a better country and a better place for all Canadians to live in. This is the result of all the diversity that Canada keeps importing where so many different groups of people have so little in common with each other that they largely keep to themselves in their own parts of a city or area.
