  2. Those werent regulars either! Those were national Guard style soldiers. They were not the well-trained, well equipped professional forces that Russia has available. So this becomes a case of 6 of 1, half dozen of the other.

  22.  @ganeshkanase5978  I assumed the west supported Pakistan, mostly due to its influence with Afghanistan and proximity on Russia's southern border. It seems to me most of the US moves have been about encircling Russia/Soviet Union with hostile neighbors. This antagonism to India is news to me.

  26.  @Ronasaelable  Always? Care to cite some examples? Most western countries had world empires. They had to manage interests through out the entire globe. Its different compared all the regional powers whos interests are in their own neighborhood. China is learning this now, as it tries to build alliances with countries that can be just as fickle as it seems to you that western powers seem. There is also domestic concerns to take into account. Because unlike countries who have dictators that hold power for a generation, most western-style democracies regularly change out governments and tend to vacillate between two competing ideologies.
