So lets see point by point where you are distorting the actual truth, or outright lying.
1. Hungary made it clear, that it wont support Ukraine's bid of accession since Ukraine adopted its minority laws back in 2017, well before any EU funds were blocked, so theres actually nothing new regarding to Orban's position.
2. Undue political interference of foreign parties is implemented, because the united opposition leader openly bragged in state television, how did he made an NGO to accept foreign money for his election campaign, which would be illegal even according to the oldest hungarian constitution, if it would be a party, so that was a greyzone transaction, which is now pushed to the clear blackzone. Thats not even overempahisizing something, Mr Zay literally told that.
3. Literally all of the EU leaders and Boris Johnson travelled to and shook hands with Putin since february 2022.
4. Theres no such thing that the "EU applying an unerected law not against one but three of its memberstates, namely Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary, because EU is not your british king, who could order your properties confiscated if he has the mood to do so, but a coalition of abovementioned countries, and without their approval there are no EU laws. And even that graindeal, what you are refering to stated that Ukrainian neighboring countries could be used as transit for ukrainian grain, there never was any EU law, which told, that Ukrainians actually sell their grain in EU turf, thats a hard fact
.5. As you dont know EU laws, and dont have the slightest idea about the jursidiction it is rather understandable, that you think Ukrainian language law is EU conform, because there is no clausule in EU laws about indigenous minorities, it is true, but where you miss the point, is that in the entire EU territory every single language which is present is considered an official language thatswhy theres no need to specify minority languages one by one because the Lisbon treaty automatically makes them official languages, so your assessment, that the Urkainian language laws are by any standard EU conform, are rather ignorantly ridiculous.
6. The changes what Urkaine made in these laws contrary of what you say does not affect every single secondary educational institutions but only privately owned secondary education institutions.
7. Changing a law which is in effect for 7 years, from which 3 was Zelensky's term two weeks before an actual decision of Ukraine's accession is rather a trick than a genuine action on Ukrainian side to unfreeze icecold relations, which is reinforced by the fact that Ukrainian foreign minister was crying in tha Guardian about it well before it even passed the parliament, so its another rather hostile action from Ukraine.
8. Hungary playing the badboy actually plays in the hands of the EU majority, because noone actually wants Zelensky in, he is too aggressive, but they dont want to look the badguys to veto it themselves. But that doesnt change the fact that one way or another Ukraine wont be an EU candidate while Zelensky reigns there.

@Ember-vee The problem with batteries is that since we use them in EV-s, and demand is in the sky, currently they are extremely expensive to use them as simple energy storage devices. A ton of people, who built their offgrid home based on battery storage are outcrying that they can't replace their batteries economically anymore. Otherwise it is an excellent idea, solar produces DC with extremely varying voltages, what would make it useless for a regular electric consumer, but batteries are not as picky about their voltage requirements, and can accept DC with a little regulation, so in paper those would make an excellent cost reduction in a small scale solar installation. The real huge cost of a solar installation is the inverter, it is a really complex machinery which makes the solar DC to grid AC, on exactly adjusted frequency, and in my country you even have to provide 3 phase above 5 kW installed capacity, so we are basically handled as any powerplant connected to the grid, and thats expensive.

Woukd you be suprised if I tell you, that Russia is the only country in Europe which ever respected Hungarian national sovereingty? The Germans occupied Hungary, the British and the French drew maps where Hungary wasnt even presented. Yes, Hungarians have second thoughts about these nations, thatswhy a European NATO is absolutely off the table. We are in as long as the Americans are in, we trust them, we dont trust the British the French and the Germans. About the Ukrainians, everybody knows their minority laws are a bad joke, even the Poles are furious because of it. Orban told Ukrainians as long as they dont change it they wont be EU members and he is sticking to his words. Maybe if Zelensky wouldnt be such a self absorbed jrk, he could have solved this situation in his 7 years presidency. Orban has the power to derail Ukrainian EU membership, so it would be wise not to make him an enemy, as Ukrainian leadership is desperate to do, you guys will realize, that you will achieve nothing by trying to outsmart everyone.

I can tell you what happened actually. After the last defeat liberal newspapers and poll surveyors found their viewership tanking. They put up articles which literally were read by 10 people. So to save their jobs, they jumped to Magyar and building this false narrative of hope to push up their viewership again. They regularly apply self censorship when it comes to Magyar's wrongdoings and fired multiple journalists who dared to criticize him. They basically know that they have 2 years left, so they invent every kind of BS to keep their jobs a little bit longer. yes they are getting back the support of their opposition audience, but at the cost, that tehy wont be trusted anymore, when their schemes will come into light. Not to mention the word liberal is a general insult in politics, they are hated from the left because they tried to make American style healthcare, on the right because of the usual cultre issue, so these papers dont have any kind of social backing, they are just existing trying to sell, that they represent the truth.

So, who are these "EU leaders", who are willing to force out a memberstate? Guess if they are as powerful, as you try to sell them to look like, they wouldnt hide in the shadows... also which "Rule of law" did Hungary went against? And if the EU funds are withold because of "Rule of Law" problems, then why would Orban get them, if he would agree to an unrelated security framework? That either means, there are no rule of law problems, in Hungary and this is only the idea to play games with a memberstate, or that the EU horsetrades the legal system to get a greenlight on some shady defense organization, which will be commaded by the same "EU leaders" who refuse to unmask themselves to the European public.

@btan3495 Sure, I noticed the pattern. Ukries are the good guys, so nothing bad can be said about them, thats the pattern. Even if you simphatyze with them or not, the task of the so called free press is not to spread the lies of their friends, but to tell the objective truth. Sure I know Soviet style propaganda, and I can tell ya, what western journalists do recently is way closer to that, than what Russian state news claiming. They are rational and level headed, while the west fabricating heroes and enemies, like the Soviets did.
1
-
@btan3495 I actually know the Budapest Memorandum's text pretty much, and its not that simple, that Ukraine gave up its nuclear stockpiles for recognition of their borders. First of all, even the Budapest Memorandum did talk about a popular referendum held in Crimea, about where it intends to belong, there was even a referendum ongoing in 1991, but Ukraine intervened with military force, and stopped it. Secondly Ukraine guaranteed Russia access to the Sevastopol military base indefinitely, which Juschenko basically completely ignored, and ordered Russians to leave. Thirdly both USA and Russia guaranteed, that they won't interfere in the internal politics of Ukraine, which was clearly breached, when Victoria Nuland, Secretary of state, personally chose in a captured phone call the new leader of Ukraine, from the Maidan revolters. Does that give explicit right for Russia to invade? No, but the international law was basically tattered even before the first Russian soldier set foot on Ukrainian ground.

@henrikl4244 Yeah sure, Serbian troops are pretty good too, they shot down an F-117 but they aren't considered eligible. But Swedes and Finns didn't held a referendum, as everyone else did, and thats not democratic, their motivations and committment is questionable, because well, the Finns promised battle tanks to Ukraine, and they broke their word, which is not a good sign for future membership, they have some conflict with another country, which should be resolved first and foremost, before the NATO membership is even considered. That some countries went absolutely nuts in NATO, that doesn't mean, that Hungary should accept easier terms than the terms that were golden standards, when we applied, we joined to that organisation, with solid groundworks, not some western agressor's club.

And then what will you do? Take Ukraine in into NATO? No you wont do it, you know, because you are cowards. Noone told you, that you cant fight for Ukraine, some of you like the US and UK gave them SECURITY GUARANTEES, meanwhile, they are so frightened from the Russians, that they didnt send a single soldier. So that you wont take Ukraine into NATO ever is 100% proven, Putin knows that, Orban knows that, everyone with 2 braincells know that, its not even a possibility but a fact. All this ballet is to distract the idiots, while the cards were clear in day 1. All this bullshitting is about to weaken the EU, which is in the best interest of both of these powers.

Tell me one EU country where there are no human right issues. Seriously the whole EU is built on the fundaments of human right violations. Just ask, how is it possible, that in Spain they can crush the Catalonian referendum, that in France, Greece, Germany, the Netherlands, the Danes there are no registered ethnic minorities at all (well there would be, but those are supressed heavily), that Croats made an entire county Serb free, that Slovaks and Czechs have legislations in place which lets them to confiscate German and Hungarian property for free, and they are doing it each year, that in Estonia Latvia and Lithuania 20% of their population, who are living there longer than these countries even exist doesnt have citizenship, and made as second class citizens. Well I guess, if we would have free press, which is interested in human rights, it should be screaming about these all day long. Unfortunately the universal declaraton of human rights is not as tolerant for these kind of things as the European Jurisdiction.

@ultimaratio7373 Invaded? you dont get it dear, if we leave, we will reclaim our lost territories as opportunity arise, because as your friend wrote without them Hungary is not entirely functional, and as far as I know every single country has the right of self preservation. You arent standing as good as to collect new enemies, especially not as powerful ones as the Turks or the Russians, and not really want to give up the gates to the Balkans. Or if you do, you will have a very hard time, its more or less inevitable. You know that the EU was intended to be a peace project, if you start to play this BS, dont be suprised if you will get wars, and noone will give a flying fuck to treaties signed 100 years ago by people held at gunpoint by your terrorist governments.

Its not that easy to put back in the faith which was lost in 30 years you know. First the Turks are fed up, because they realized, that even is they become the most liberal of liberal democracies, they will never be part of Europe, well, because they are a muslim country, and to everyone's biggest suprise the liberals of the liberals dont really like non white muslim people, and it would be hard to explain to the Hungarians, how come, that all the 3 major European wars happened in our borders, and there is not a single NATO soldier stationed here, because the 10.000 strong US expeditionary force is defending Germany from the wrath of the Danes! Or Belgium, or Switzerland, or whatever grave danger lurking around Western Europe. If you ask the question why any random Hungarians burst out laughing when they hear about NATO, thats because it sounds as a joke to us. But they are defending us. From Germany. We should be grateful for the USA. As well as we should be grateful for the Marshall plan. Which we received nothing of. And that they liberated us from Hitler. Which the Russians did. Or they protected us from the Russians. To whom they given our country in Yalta. And we should remember 56. When they didnt come. So we should give Ukrainians what we got back then. Which we give more. Turns ot the greatest thing we should be grateful to the Americans, is that we got the opportunity to fight and die against terrorists in Afghanistan, which even the Soviet Union didnt dare to ask us to do.

@omi685 Lol dear, by some miracle we got those territories, which means they are not unconquerable. For example now we have an excellent opportunity to take back the stuff we lost to the Soviets. As the saying goes you eat the elephant bit by bit. Luck is changing. Besides its not you, who are crying, that we should align with Russia? Well, they are kinda strong, you know, and the last thing you want is a huge corridor between the Russians and the Serbs, because you know on first round it means bye bye Kosovo and Bosnia, and maybe we get something in return as well. Yeah the NATO, which has as many enemies around the world, you cant even decide who to fight first. Yeah that means, that you will either clowning around China, or China would be in in Europe with support so that NATO cant clown around in China, but the result is kindof the same. And we didnt even talk about your little games with Turkey, well, if they are in as well, the space vacuum would feel as deep ocean of how isolated Romania would become, because neither road nor sea would lead there through friendly territory, they could starve or give in on any demand. And those were the hard picks Slovakia under any circumstances took us 3 to 7 days regularly, when they actually have a military which they donated to the ukries. BTW that would be the very first country which is a NATO member, and officially attacked. So be careful what you wish for, you may get it, chances arent as grim as you would like to see. But not going that far, if Russia manages to close on these countries, they will shit their pants as they usually do, and become way more manageable. It is even possible, that Romanians turn coats again, as they usually do, and we will be allies, as we usually are and Im quite sure Czechs and Slovaks will find their soviet lover panslavic inner self sooner or later. The only ones who you can trust from this branch are the Poles, they wont switch, but fortunately we dont have any problems or territorial claims on them.

@emilsinclair4190 After countless wars fought on the Middle East by western government noone with a sane mind really thinks this as a valid reason. Yep there are wars all over the world, but seriously, your country don't trade with Israel because they are fucking with the palestinians? You have sanctions against the USA because it started multiple wars without UN approval? Yor country doesn't buy batteries because those are mined with slave labour in Kongo? There is no moral high ground on this topic, not a single one, but to differentiate the ukrainians because they are white europeans is kinda baltantly racist. And if we are talking about moral liabilities, then we are responsible for the afghans and iraqis, because we fucked up their countries, and not the ukrainians, because russians fucking up their countries. But it works otherwise, we deport those, whose fathers were killed by our military, and support those, whose fathers were killed by another military.

Europe can wait a few years more. I doubt Putin can maintain Russian economy thatlong, and we can give Ukraine enough to keep them in the game. If they run out of money, they will leave Ukraine, not just that, Russia will break up. Wonder if the Chinese will continue to back Russia, if Trump signs a deal with Russia to retreat from their alliance... they can very easily find themselves between the hammer and the anvil. Would the US pay for Russia so it can continue its war against Ukraine? Not likely. Putin needs this deal more than Europe, if he doesnt get it, then he will face a dire situation, where he have to choose between Trump and Xi, and neither of those choices will benefit him, because he will make one of them a powerful enemy.

OK, so the problem as I see from the comments, is that our Polish friends dont understand the rules of the bigboy club, where the British the French and the Americans want them. The rules of the bigboy club is that there are no rules in the bigboy club, except that if another bigboy hits you you hit back twice as hard, or face the consequences. There are no international laws, agreements, allies, daddy America comes in and saves the day, nothing except raw power there, but the bright side is the toddler club will pretend that anything you do is right as long as they think you are useful to them. If you accept an advice form a state which is in Europe for 1100 years, if I would be Poland, my first batch of 50 nuclears would have already came down from the production line.

@olivers.7821 Well you actually know that in 1992 half a year after Ukraine born, the Krimean autonomous region's parliament declared their wish for independence and wanted to hold a referendum about it, but ukrainian military moved in and crushed the rebellion. The western people are so naive that they believe an ultranationalist Ukraine is so much better than Putin's little world, they are democratic, because they ousted the russian puppet guy, but we are neighbours with them, we know, that these are the same kind of people, and your problems with Hungary will be nothing compared to if you take them in now. Even if Russia wouldn't exists that country would be on the verge of a civil war and collapse, simply because the nationalities there can't tolerate eachother, rather trying to gain an upper hand against eachother and form a homogeneous nation state which only can be achieved by violence and genocide.

@SCH292 Well, we defended your ass for 1000 years, thatswhy you didnt get the Golden horde or the Turks into your little garden, as jungle Joe put it. But you decided, that you rather want the Romanians and the Slovaks to defend you and gave our natural borders to them, so we are a little bit out of responsibilities right now, and let them to make our duties. No grudges, but we all know, that an army cant be stopped on the Great Hungarian Plain, and we dont have the Carpathian mountains anymore, so thats the end of the story strategically.

Well, no in WWI we technically won against the Russians, remember they quit early because of Lenin. And yeah the Soviets, which technically included Ukraine, led by a Georgian thatswhy I wouldnt mix it with Russians. Well, Hungary wasnt an independent nation under them, BUT they never stated even then that Hungary would be part of the Russian sphere, thatswhere we are fundamentally different from the Poles or the Baltics, because Poles were indeed part of the Russian empire once. And this is not about siding with Russia, but keeping all options open. If we burn the bridges with Russia, that means we have no choice but to rely on the Romanians, if we keep both of them, we have the option to ditch any of them, if we dont like what they are doing. @JackChurchill101

Yeah sure, buddy, we are reading that since Trump and Brexit, of how the Brits and Americans don't care about Europe, and that they wouldn't honour their NATO obligations, and after that you are really suprised, that some take that stance seriously and don't intend to go into adventures with Russians. To be honest we never took NATO that seriously, and handled it as a bluff, which should be never called down, and we know, that after this war is over, you will pack up and go to Asia to wage war against China, but Russia will stay where it is, and whatever it does it can do without punishment.

@jamesbohlman4297 Oh my dear, your country wouldn't even exist, if we wouldn't stand firm and stop the Mongols, the Turks and any other invaders who came from the East for 1000 years, usually without any western aid. Problem is, that you can't differentiate between slavic countries, which didn't even exist 100 years ago, and thatswhy don't know western treachery as good as we do, who are an independent country since the William the Conqueror set foot on your land. Yeah sure bud, you can take in the so called Grand duchy of Finland, as far as I remember that was its name for a few hundred years, and the so called Ukraine, which in itself means "Borderlands", into the so called NATO, but your word and your alliance doesn't count that much, and if these countries will get into trouble you will be nowhere. If you don't believe me, you can see, how did you throw Poland and the Finns to the Russians after World War II, because you know thats the thing you always do, and we won't put too much into your words. United Europe is a little bit ironic statement from a Brexiteer, if you let me that to point out, Europe is not united, and it will never be, because its a goddamn big continent with lots of nationalities, and conflicting interests. We take care of our own best interests, which is not to anger Russians Turks, and Germans. Unfortunately Americans and Brits are not in the equation, as they don't really have stakes in Central Europe, just distant voices, who always want to make some trouble and want some cheap military action to distract any potential threat from a big European Empire in their doorstep. Thats exactly the thing you are doing in Ukraine, and it looks like it came directly from Lord Palmerston's playbook.

Not too likely. Magyar is an ex crony of Orban's breed, the left hates him with a passion, and he is basically representing the upper class liberals who want their taxcuts in place and push their neoliberal agenda, and who are not enough to win an election. Meanwhile Orban offered some inflation reduction options, which was criticized by the liberals mking them even more despised among the general population. MKKP or the Dogs are even worse, they dont have any idea beyond organizing gay parades and legalizing cannabis, which sounds good in the capital, where they exist, sounds horrible in the countryside. they will never be a real political party, only a fringe cultural phenomenon endeared by a very slim caste of people. If I have to bet, that because of this division Orban will actually win such a landslide which will suprass anything he previously had.

@johaquila Yeah, I kind of remember when Merkel and co, the so called Northern states played that PIGS game in 2008 with Southern Europe, told Eastern Europe that we are on our own, used their hiena press to make racial slurs about the Greeks, informed Varoufakis, that while democracy is an important value, they dont give a crap about their national referendum, and when they dared to resist she destroyed their banking, sent people who were elected by noone to override the monetary decisions of sovereign states, by literally taking over the ministries of finance, and cherry on top meanwhile letting the biggest economy of the world to fall back to the third place and after that we are suprised, if someone is laughing in this "Europe is one big happy community with shared values" bullshit and that fascism is rising. Well it could be, but Germans blew it. They were shortsighted as usual. And now they let the Americans blow the winds ideologically, which is never ever a great idea, because for everyone's suprise, Americans are making policies for the Americans and dont give a crap about the EU. If you want to know why Orban is there where he is, its because the economic history of Hungary was a 30 years long austerity program from 1989 to 2008 lead by the IMF and the ECB, and people got goddamn enough, that the situation actually got worse after joining the EU, meanwhile Orban promised, that thistime the banks will pay.

As far as I remember, when Hungary joined the EU Germany already completed Nordstream 1 then they sabotaged the Nabucco project together with Chirac, so talking about any rule in existence about Russia inside of the EU which Hungary actually breach is kindof sycophantic. But I go further than that, in 2008 when Orban secured his presidency the socialist literally begged for help from the EU, and they got the answer, that the country is on its own. Which somewhat miraculously wasnt the case later, because mutte Merkel regularly showed support for Orban, even as long as 2020, when she tried to axe the legislation which even lets the EU parliament to consider these options. Or we can talk about how big role models the brexiteers are for the Hungarian extremists. There is a very grounded oppinion on the Hungarian population, that Orban is a mastermind, because somehow he always won the support of the EU at the end. So to speak against the evils of the Hungarian population is kindof a very sycophantic standpoint. As Russian opposition regularly say, that while we protested on the streets, your politicians shaked hands with Orban and Putin and congratualted each other in your football arenas. And while I never voted for Orban, I dont see your moral highground either, to talk about Hungary like that. You had your chance to deal with this a decade ago and you fcked it up. NATO is even more problematic. There is literally no NATO presence in Hungary for 3 decades, all the thing we know about them, that Americans are bragging about money, and what military hardware we should buy from them, giving or military equipmaent to other nations, then crying for more, we literally given all of our t72-s to the Ukries a decade before this war, now you want our Leopards as well, or that into which desert we must send our soldiers to die, and making enemies in places, where they didnt even heared about us. And that for a so called ally, whose every second word, is how it will leave Europe to China. I cant throw stone on anyone who thinks, that the whole thing is an utter joke, which we shouldnt be part of. To be honest you need more of us than we need you. If we leave NATO nothing changes for us tomorrow, but you will be no longer capable to reach Romania and Bulgaria on road or rail to resupply.

@101jir They are constantly badmouthing Hungarian democracy, but thats not really the thing why we didn't ratify. I think initially we simply joined up Erdogan, because we have seen these kind of attacks against Turkey, and we consider them as allies, who shouldn't left alone. But now we have some problems, first of all, that we don't believe in their commitment, which is based on some polls taken on a telephone survey rather than a referendum, and we really don't like the idea that they wanna join in the middle of a very tense situation. In the days, when we joined, noone could join NATO who had such a problem as they seemingly have with Russia.

Well, if you want Russian military bases in the middle of Europe, maybe some nuclear tipped Iskander missiles 5 minutes from Berlin, a bloodlust Serbia connected to the Russian military in a 400 km wide corridor, a NATO split into two segments, a Romania in more dire situation than the Baltics today, and mandatory drafting in all of Europe to try to protect this whole steaming pile of crap, we can talk about it... Lol if you antagonize the turks, you wont even have naval access to the Black sea dear. That would be the wettest dream of mr Putin, even the old tzars couldnt reach the Balkans as easy, to stir up trouble there. At least WWIII would break out in Europe again, not in China.

Yep, we in Hungary pretty much know that, thatswhy we wouldn't fight the russians, just show them the fastest route to Western Europe. We never cried that virtually no NATO troops were stationed here ever, but we don't say we would die a heroic death like the baltics do. It was enough for us to defend you from the Mongols, the Ottoman Empire, the Russians, and everything comes from the east without any help for centuries, some of them even offering alliance if we let them pass through to Wien and Italy, and have our capital demolished multiple times, and our country decimated by western powers, what is actually a good thing now, because noone can use us as a staging ground. Now its your turn to defend yourself, we care for our own business. We take part on this alliance as long as it serves our interests and not longer. Of course everyone hates our politicians, because they are realists, and not joining the russian chinese or I don't konw how much bandwagon exists, but thats the best of our country, and other countries should take care for themselves. Sure most of the Eastern European countries are looking for the west with starry eyed naivete, because they didn't even exist 100 years ago, but we are here for 1000 years, we have already seen western treachery in action multiple times.
