  1. One thing what the story got wrong and every single WWII subamrine story gets wrong is the torpedo attack. There were no self guided torps basically till the end of the war, so the torpedo solution had to be given prior to launching the fish. The target needed to travel with a constant speed towards a constant bearing, otherwise the torp would certainly miss. Thatswhy there is no point to heroically fire torpedoes to an escort, which already knows about the sub, because it is just wasting ammo, and robs time from the Uboat to dive and hide.
