@davidblalock9945 isn't an 83MM a pretty huge turbo for that engine size? I would be more inclined to blame turbo lag on the fact that you say this was decades ago before the incredible boost management we have now paired with a fairly large turbo for the motor it's feeding.

"I need le moneyeaux" SAME, dawg.

They had superchargers in the 30s so.....
14
Scott's death in new jersey is what caused the change

@davidblalock9945 I’m probably a few generations younger than you (born post-lightbulb) so this sailor is a little out of his depth on the Tim Allen references haha. Regardless it’s insanely impressive that you daily drove a car that fast in that era. Wild really. God bless brother

Marine engines have always been at the peak of engineering, they were making 2700 NA horsepower in the early 20's

@adrunkenloner no, he's only here to be negative
4
they built one of the most amazing sounding v10's so.....

@daftpanda6533 they still operate but not as a drag strip. They made a deal with formula drift to turn the strip into a skid pad. I saw one of their first events there. Was a lot of fun but I would rather see Top Fuel

Russ Cooke they were gigantic 27+ liter engines, a medical scientist named Royal Rife created that particular engine, here's a picture of it for scale https://www.google.com/search?q=timken+speedboat&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwir0O-RmP_wAhWOWN8KHR_aAYQQ2-cCegQIABAA&oq=timken+speedboat&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQAzoCCAA6BQgAELEDOgQIABBDOgcIABCxAxBDOggIABCxAxCDAToGCAAQCBAeOgQIABAYUPwjWOU_YM1BaAFwAHgAgAGOAYgBuQmSAQQxNC4ymAEAoAEBqgELZ3dzLXdpei1pbWewAQDAAQE&sclient=img&ei=0r66YKufMI6x_QaftIegCA&bih=743&biw=1440&rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS927US927#imgrc=G6CxuwEo_YJXsM

that piston supercharger is honestly insanely interesting
3
@802Garage Doubt they'll invest into something like that, new waters for the domestic brand. All I know is that they need an actual sports car.
3
@skaldlouiscyphre2453 do I have to name them all? Where do you think WRC got the restrictor plate rule from??
2
You'd be suprised how many companies invested in the concept. Chevy made a prototype NA hemi in the 70s, forget what the name was, but it made 750hp. In 1970.

@BazilRat nascar was doing that decades before
1
boost is not the measure to go by, it's the actual amount of air going in
