  1. I come from a matriachal community in southern India. Exactly same culture except we dont have walking marriages. Proper marriage ceremony is conducted after which girl joins her husband/husbands family. Once the children are born they are sent to their maternal home, where the maternal uncle plays the role of father. My mother being the first born was raised by her uncle. However things are changing fast now. I was raised by my parents. I did not go to my maternal home.
