That chili looked delicious! I never thought Truckee could have been such a lovely town. Looks really nice. The name always made me think of it as a truck stop, with all the associated connotations, lol. TFS.

I share your point of view about work - A job is just a means to an end. To take it a step further, you work in order to live and not the other way around.

Simple and functional - there's a lot of beauty in that! Thanks for sharing!

That was a beautiful rest area you found. It left me wondering if the rest areas in NV tend to be as beautiful as the ones in AZ. And BTW, those rye crackers are from Sweden. I used to eat them all the time when I lived there. Very dry, but good with a slice of cheese, tomatoes, bell peppers and/or ham. A Swedish staple:)

The thump of the rain on the van roof used to put me right to sleep!! I love the rain when I don't have to drive in it. So why wouldn't you ever move to Portland? (You had to know the question was coming. LOL:))
7
Leucadia (and Oceanside) are 2 of my favorite towns in SD:) That soup looked amazing! What is the name of the powdered vegetable broth? Thanks for sharing.
7
Love the industrial look of your kitchen & can't wait to see it fully operational:)
6
Seems like Mendocino would make a great home base for you between the temps, beaches, trails and friendly vibe. Certainly is beautiful there. Also, are those new shoes fairly light weight? I'm considering a few different shoes for walking/workout/hiking. Did a really long hike several years back with not so great shoes and it took my feet more than a year to recover!

Interesting how people perceive things differently! Thanks for graciously (& humorously:)) sharing your vanlife adventures and helping us make more informed purchase decisions. Much appreciated!
6
Glad to hear you're on the mend. There really is no place like home when you're not feeling well. Take care of yourself:)
6
Love the warmer lighting❤

Great to see you enjoying cooking in the new van. For me, the first meal prepared in a new place always makes me feel at home. The color on that chili coated meat was beautiful!

What a fun video (and really well done van tour)! You two are really great on camera together and I hope to see more collaborations in the future:)

Wild that it's time to prep for winter already! The light at Centerville Beach is so pretty. I imagine I'd get chores done at a snail's pace (if at all, haha) in a spot like that, too. Seems perfect for a cup of tea and an afternoon nap:)
5
I'm a staunch tea drinker, but I still enjoy your coffee chats. Something about the ritual of preparing and consuming coffee or tea is the same, I think. Love the taste of a latte or cappuccino, but the caffeine and tannins don't love me😬
5
I totally agree with you about using natural fibers as much as possible. I wear thin layers of wool all year long and adjust the number of layers according to the weather. Highly breathable, durable and can't beat it for temperature regulation. I've had a few thin tees for 5+ years, worn them 100's of times and they still look nearly new after washing. Can't put in the dryer but they dry quickly. Totally worth the little higher price tag.

I get exactly the same result when I over brew my Earl Grey tea. Bitter/tannic even though it's decaf. Yuck! Hope the rain came at night to help make for an even better night's sleep😴💤
5
Thanks for the nice review! I like that the battery is plug -n-play, very portable and can be charged in 3 different ways. My eyes usually glaze over when folks start talking about typical van dwelling power systems...
5
Thanks for sharing, as always 🙂 Some really spectacular views in Sedona! I know what you mean about white knuckling winding and steep mountain roads. Took me more than a decade to attempt Hwy 74 between Palm Desert and Idyllwild again after my first traumatic drive on it! 35 MPH and occasionally on the wrong side of the road to avoid the steep drop offs the first time! Glad I tried again finally. Totally worth it for the cooler forest temps in the summer.

New sub from Bayward's channel & love your minivan. What's the towing capacity you spoke of? I work full time too and use my van mostly on weekends for short trips - great way to inexpensively explore CA. Looking forward to seeing your other videos. Nice job on your first video!
5
Whichever next vehicle you own, do you plan on having basically the same build layout or are there things you would like to change? Hope you find something you're really happy with:)
5
Enjoy being stuck in San Diego! In this case, slow mail is a good thing:)
5
Congratulations on hitting the six year mark! 🎉🥳 I think your minivan layout is the most well thought out and practical I have seen on YouTube. Very little if any shuffling things around. This and having as much headroom as possible are the keys to being comfortable living out of a minivan, IMHO. Here's to the next six years! 🥂

What's the size of the sink bowl? I've been contemplating locating a sink in the rear of my minivan, too and also putting my toilet directly across from it to make something of a bathroom in the third row seat well. Enjoy your visit with Granny!♥️

The weather looked glorious! Nice you got to enjoy it in such a beautiful spot. How do those potato flakes taste?? I'm a fan of Red Mill and might want to try.

Great video. I think living in a small van gives one maximum flexibility in terms of lifestyle choices (where & how to live, work, travel and otherwise experience life). It can be lonely or not no matter what situation you find yourself in - not specific to living in a van. Thanks for the shout outs to the other channels!

Such a gorgeous campground! Glad you're enjoying your wool clothing:)
4
Congratulations on 1500 subs! The time you put in to your videos is much appreciated:)
4
@StaticCamperVan Haha. I don't want to use the Omnia because the baking pan is made of aluminum
4
I want some! Love how you clean up that chocolate as you go:) My version of this recipe would probably include lavender and vanilla. Thanks for sharing!

To each his/her own! At the end of the day, only Atli will know if starting a YouTube channel is a good thing for her! LOL I hope she does start one though - seems like she has had a lot of interesting experiences as a van dweller.

Wow, now that is a bizarre reaction - especially compared to mine! I'd say my reaction is the exact opposite. If I have coffee (caffeine) on an empty stomach, I'd be likely to get a headache and you'd have to peel me off the ceiling in about 5 minutes. And if I have it after 3 in the afternoon I'm not likely to get any sleep that night. I think the tannins mess with me too as I'm OK with caffeinated tea in the morning with food. I do love the taste of cappucino, though, and indulge in that occasionally. Tea for me, please:)
4
Those look like Michelin star tacos to me!

That southern shot along the coast made me think of the original Planet of the Apes beach scenes! Nice temps you've got there in the middle of summer ☺️
4
Fabulous! I've been waiting for this video🙂 Also, I used your method to season my Matfer yesterday and it worked like a charm! Eggs sliding around like hockey pucks. That small pot looks really nice too. The sloped sides remind me a little of a saucier - food maybe not as likely to get caught in the bottom corners and easier to clean. Thanks for sharing!!

Wish I could eat burritos eveyday! Missing Mexican food.

Forgot to mention that avocado oil is nice for use on carbon steel. High smoke point, imparts a yummy avocado taste and keeps longer than olive oil. I use it to make pan "avocado" toast with sourdough bread. Might be good for your tortillas, too:)

Thanks for sharing! I've moved often and traveled a lot - temp agencies have been a great resource when I've been new to a city and want to get my foot in the door at a company or make some money on a temporary basis. The industry is huge and jobs range from day labor to finance to healthcare to... A few of the companies are even international. The quality of the "franchise" can vary from one city to the next, though, even if they operate under the same name - I think it is important to find a few different companies in the industry you're interested in and "interview" all of them when you get to a new city you want to find work in. A great thing is that if you leave a city after working temporarily and return at a later time, you can often reactivate your file with the agencies you've worked for by simply calling them with your availability. They'll be glad to put you back to work ASAP if you've previously done well by them. Whew, long winded! LOL

I'm gonna get one of those Tribbles for a pet and call it Trouble. Huge original Star Trek series fan:)
4
Nice layout they've got there. That oven is fabulous! TFS

I love Flagstaff and try to stop through there whenever I can get to the Grand Canyon. People are nice and it has a great small town vibe. Also, been meaning to ask you if you've tried baking in the van. I love to bake, but haven't yet figured out a good system for my minivan.

Thanks for sharing this great practical info! I hadn't thought of a floor vent as an alternative (and a more efficient one, at that) to a second roof fan. Great to have more real estate on the roof for solar and the improved air flow would make me feel better about using various heating sources in my van. Love my regular foam mattress, but will research latex when it comes time to replace it. Supposed to be better for health.

Congrats on getting to 50k subscribers!!🎉

Thanks for sharing your vanniversary trip! That spot is so beautiful and I hope you get to go back to take the waters at Miracle...

Ahhhh, La Jolla. Love that trail behind the Cave Store - usually pretty quiet there. Some spectacular longer coastal trails at Torrey Pines State Reserve as well if you get up that way. Glad you made it to Pannikin and hope you enjoyed the coffee:). Thanks for sharing. Your video skills are getting sooo good!!

@StaticCamperVan Yes:)

Sounds like a wonderful event. I have been interested in the medicinal uses of natural hot springs for more than a decade (have been in use outside the US for centuries). Seems to me the pharmaceutical companies (with the help of health care professionals) have made prescription medication addicts out of a lot of people. I guess that's one way to make a buck...

Happy New Year and hope you're feeling better soon:) I'm under the impression many people move or retire to places like the desert or mild climate areas like SoCa specifically for health reasons. The dry, sunny and warm weather helps with things like arthritis, for example. The vitamin D from the sun helps a lot too with general humor. Scandinavians are actually prescribed winter vacations in places like Spain for these very reasons! Take care!

My how the Naval Training Center has changed! Looks so nice now. As much as you cook in your videos (and also considering your professional cooking experience), it would be cool to see what you would consider essential for a vandweller kitchen - no matter what size the rig.

I've always felt that people know their own bodies better than any doctor and that both self diagnosis and self treatment usually work best for most ailments. I'm sure you'll be back at 100% in no time:)
