  1. a funny thing I just noticed from my last visit to Yad La Shiryon - there IS mk 3 Chieftain on display, but the notice board showed a Centurion tank picture next to the info !!

  2. Dear Panzer Museum in Munster Germany , if you have a spare Tiger , Panther or even a Sherman firefly tank just sitting around doing nothing , maybe Yad La Shiryon in Israel could swap something ( exotic ) in exchange ,thanking you in advance !!

  3. I am fortunate enough to live 20 minutes from Yad La-Shiryon (officially: The ( Israeli ) Armoured Corps Memorial Site and Museum at Latrun , central Israel ) , so I've got to see all four versions of the Merkava , plus the Namer APC which is based upon the Merkava tank - lucky me !!!

  4. as more and more Merkava's came on line , the older, upgraded models of Western tanks ( used by the Israeli tank corps ) became an issue , so maintenance of the Merkava became more widespread , hence easier to maintain

  5. maybe this is news to you ,but the Centurion tank , when past its usefulness as a tank , was actually converted to an APC , which was fine for a while , until the very obvious deficiencies were exposed in recent conflicts . These days , the Namer APC based on the Merkava Mark IV tank chassis , is ( more ) widespread , and the humble ( Super ) Sherman's and Centurion's , so important in defending Israel in the past , end their lives as target practise

  7. The Leopard tank on display in Israel , is a Mark 1 , ALSO , there is a Swiss made Panzer 61(1961) . Probably a bit off topic , but there is a modellers corner near the entrance to the (Yad la Shiryon ) museum , where one can view scale models of tanks and the like , lovingly created and assembled by enthusiasts .

( if you get the chance , after the covid 19 thing , come and visit Yad La Shiryon in Israel , you'll see NUMEROUS versions of the Sherman and Centurion tanks , plus a Stug 3 and a Panzer 4 ( used by the Syrians on the Golan heights )

  10. I think you are suffering from tunnel vision , you should look BEYOND the borders of Israel to see how many of our neighbours receive U.S aid ( of any kind ) , and still have a habit of burning the stars and stripes ( something Israel DOESN'T do ) , THAT should be of more concern to you

As I see it , the beauty of the Sherman Firefly verses the Panther tank , is that the Firefly was an evolution built upon established technology , which meant that any problems were literally known ahead of time , whereas the " big kitty " was an unknown quantity whose true role had yet to be established , before it was rushed into service ( the engine , from what I have heard , could be somewhat temperamental ) .( correct me if you think I'm wrong )

  14. Yad La Shiryon has a Sherman tank with an AMX tank turret that the IDF liberated from one of its neighbours ................ just saying !!!!

  22. from what I can tell from the video , IF an auto loader WAS fitted to the Merkava , and there was a squad of infantrymen/women ( we have co-ed units over here ) in the tank ( loaded with extra ammo ) , things might get a bit interesting .........

  23. Yad La Shiryon is constantly evolving as a museum . Every time I visited , there were ( subtle) changes in the layout or signage to make the place more visitor friendly

  24. I'm going to throw a spanner into the works , and see what happens . Do you think that the members of the German armed forces who took Pervitin , were beginning to suffer burnout /side effects due to their "race to the coast " ?

  27. Wasn't the main gun on the French AMX tank ( used by the IDF ) an adapted version of the main gun on the Panther tank ? ( correct me if I'm wrong )

  30. I've seen the name Merkava on quite a few buses here in Israel , I guess that must be the name of the coachbuilder ( factory ) , where imported buses are " finished " for the local environment

Something for another time perhaps , BUT could you make a video about how fast various tank turrets revolved , and how the speed of the turret doing a 360 would affect the tanks survivability when engaging multiple mobile targets (tanks ) either offensively or defensively - ie how fast did the Sherman's tank turret revolve against that of a Tiger 1 ( and in the big picture , would it really make any difference )
