  3. why should the British and Americans be anything BUT cautious , their homelands hadn't been invaded by the Nazis ( except in the case of the (British ) Channel islands ) , it was the Russians who were rightly hell-bent on revenge - remember, several German units PREFFERED to surrender to the British or Americans for good reason

  4. I don't think that the failure of the July 20th(1944) plot to assassinate Hitler helped things one bit for the Germans - senior officers were most probably terrified of discounting the " wisdom " of Hitler , lest they end up on a scaffold , or facing a firing squad for treason
