the Judean and Samarian COMMUNITIES , act as a protective buffer to much of Israel , making invasion from the East Bank ( of the Jordan river ) a lot harder , the largely hostile international community want that buffer removed PERMANENTLY . Whilst Judean and Samarian communities might stymie the desires of the "U.N " and other unelected bodies hostile to Israel's very existence , the " settlements " are ESSENTIAL
