Finally, i can show people my justification 🤓☝️

Instead of saying, leave the platform. Especially when people won't go over there and be exposed to his content. How about we hold youtube to a better standard and share his content. People aren't willing to switch as easily and let's be honest, user interface if a big factor. Peertube even says they're not a replacement. I think we should just keep distribute his content as much as possible to new users and make this more aware. Also if you know how to, make your own content. And help spread awareness. I'm not being gatekeepy I'm saying it will help.

I disagree with the selfhost take, I think that self hosting is just putting data back in your hands, some of the options you pointed out can cost money monthly, while Cryptomator is Free and con coexist with options like icloud and gmail Picocrypt allows plausible deniability and good encryption options Self hosting can also just be a flashdrive that you encrypt and put your photos as a backup. If you do it all offline and locally no one would know. I think putting the data back in peoples hand is far greater too. The security concern are valid but i do it all locally on my server with nothing exposed.

@NotEvenDeathCanSaveU you're hurting the community more with this Skitzoid take. Just take your meds and get off the Internet. It's unproductive to make speculation.

Big Sad man, I love your content and is one of the reasons why I switched to a custom rom on my pixel. If there's anything I can do please reach out!. I do share your content as much as possible.

@5555Jacker "backup" is time consuming. And to be honest, even the largest YT Chanel in the privacy realm leaving isn't going to hurt YT or Google as much as I want it too. The only way to hurt this platform is for more people to make content and bring awareness. Yt follows the trend Early day's Gaming was For a long time before that it was animation Then prank Chanels even if they're "harmful" Political and reaction Chanels we're the bread winners and now I believe it's long form podcast are getting bigger. And I think it's the new meta now. My only suggestion right now is have more creators bring light to this.

@5555Jacker I agree and I want competition but just because I agree and want something doesn't mean it's going to happen when you have a platform that is this big like twitch like other things that have gotten so massive it's very hard to create competition this is where this is real solution is holding accountability and making higher standards happen I don't know how it's going to happen I mean look at mixer that tried to take on twitch when it they brought over a massive streamer and it's ran by Microsoft even though I know that's it sounds like a joke but as big as they are the biggest streamers they brought over it didn't put a dent into twitch because people are like creatures of habit it's a comfortability level I don't have to learn a new platform I don't have to sign up I don't have to refind all these things I like the algorithm blah blah blah you have to change the mindset of society and that's harder than the already mountain that you have to climb my other issue with it is look at the people that have tried to you know make alternatives like fire story and look at I mean Odyssey is great but the main issue with Odyssey is is backed by crypto and I don't like that and I'm pro-crypted a huge back of it but the problem is this you know the SEC can come down and f**** slap that b** into Oblivion because of that and it's a huge problem I love pure too and all the other really good alternatives but they're never going to outpace something this big it's just not we're not in the right area if there was more competition in the beginning I think YouTube probably would have been a successful you know look at look at the browser
1
@5555Jacker I mean look at the browser dilemma we're in right now you have people like you know I choose this or this you know you you have Firefox and then you have IOS and then everything else is like based on Chrome etc etc and and to be fair I work in an industry where it's very tech oriented and people do not like change people don't even back up their s*** let alone want to change an entire app especially it's the older generation the younger generation they're all on tiktok and you know that's their like their social media like I I don't like using anecdotal like like stories cuz they don't really do anything I think there should be competition I wish there was but I know it's not going to happen not in my lifetime probably not in yours unless you're insanely Young and YouTube really f** up YouTube has to f**** so bad that it forces people to to want to change I mean it took a long time for me to convince some of my friends just to switch to better alternative privacy respecting and it comes down to threat model and some people love the algorithm and that's fine I'm not like you know I'm I'm very okay with you know people choosing what they want and not being forced or fear-mongered into another platform or blah blah blah insert thing here cuz that's not healthy it puts you into an echo chamber and then you you just sound like a nut and you don't expand on better ideas and complete the complete complete transparency I'll probably never get off YouTube unless they really f**** and I still use other platforms but I and I try to use more private respecting front-ended apps because a lot of creators that I like that crate open source content server-based content home lab-based content they're not on these other platforms cuz it's very time consuming you have to remember that time consuming stuff it prevents people from wanting to even just back up or go to another platform because now you got to do this you got to put it over here you got to remember to do it over there are you going to get the views is it worth your time it's a money making business man at the end of it people are on YouTube cuz they want to make money and they want to expose their content the majority not everyone obviously and I think we both agree that we wish there was another option but the competition is never going to be there it's just too big to fail it's it's unfortunate and I'm not looking at it from a doomer like it's like never going to fail in forever and ever and ever and ever but I think at this current time in my lifetime it is going to be a long time before people start switching over to better contact and this always goes back to my my point of view of more people on YouTube need to make content about free and open source software better alternatives in YouTube or five years ago and if we just like try to just even convince one person you know one person to switch to something better more private respecting due to really good evidence I think that's more impactful and more more important than just switching to another platform that doesn't quote unquote like censor you that's the reality it's about having good conversation in inch holding YouTube to a standard and I think if we were to start a bigger wave and get more people to watch this content eventually the money will roll in and you know money talks in this kind of space and it might switch to stuff like this at some point you know Linus tech tips bringing
1
@5555Jacker bringing even a fraction over I think that's the most important thing you can do when these big channels start hopping on and start doing all this content on it like even just gaming on Linux is going a million times better than when I started on Linux almost 10 years ago and I'm happy to see that these bigger platforms that have all this traffic is pushing people to this industry and this is just my personal opinion I think they're a good alternatives out there I think there should be competition but I don't think it's going to solve anything now and now is more important than thinking about what if during the future and I think if more people make content and we get more attention to the stuff it will push more people to see those other platforms remove the idea of people doing it out of anger and just going I'm just going to go to Odyssey because of insert and they took off my favorite streamer blah blah blah that's probably not going to happen it's I'm going to stay here I'm going to watch some of this content on Odyssey if I have to I'm going to be mainly on YouTube and that's just the reality of people's mindset it's hard to change something they're so used to and the curated part YouTube did a really good job at forcing people to make them not really have a choice that's just my opinion and rant
