I was offered a position as a female London Met. police constable in 1970, I was 17. In the end, I decided to stay in my local area, thank goodness. A very interesting video, thanks Kevin.

My father was a Commando, and never spoke about the war. When I dared to ask him what it was like, he said "Hell", and walked away. He never spoke about it ever, except to confirm he was a Commando and took part in the Spearhead operation.

I wish you'd been my history teacher. I love your clear and concise enunciation. Something sadly lacking in some people who mumble these days.

@OtherSmolder Thankyou, it was a massive internal and external recruitment drive at the time . Yes, very good money but like you say, slightly less than males.

@joelhall5124 sorry, took so long to reply, the age of joining the Met (south london division) was 16, straight after good "0" level results.

My father was a Commando as part of the Spearhead , and I was very proud of him. He met my Belgian mother during the liberation. She was living next door to Guestapo headquarters and always said " if they had searched our house and found my radio, we, (her family) would have been shot". My parents were both heroes RIP.
