Eh, you can make that excuse till the end of time, that it’s better to wait for some new future tech. At some point you just have to do it.

It’s not even just a matter of generational knowledge taking that much time to accumulate but that there wasn’t a system to accumulate it. Writing of a form complex enough to convey more than trivial, high level concepts obviously wasn’t seen as a priority. Once there was a need for things like writing and math, a positive feedback loop is created where knowledge creates more reasons to prioritize accumulating more knowledge.

@BertzTriscut Exponentially isn’t the right word, there are boom and bust cycles. Priorities change for all sorts of reasons and life has to be pretty comfortable to prioritize or even support a small group of people dedicated to science, philosophy, research, exploration. Even in scenarios we think of as far from comfortable, like WWI or even WWII, most of humanity was far better off than most people were in peace time just a couple of centuries earlier.
