Price fixing is not the natural outcome of a free market. A free market requires effective regulation to keep it free, otherwise it becomes a set of monopolies which stifle any freedom in the market. Price fixing is what you get from a planned market not a free one. Whether that planning is by the state or a cartel of businesses, it’s the opposite of a free market. People who think a free market means no rules, don’t understand economics.

@outtheredude Capitalism isn’t the problem, capitalism is simply economic autonomy at the individual level. Like any social or economic system, rules have to exist which maintain a level playing field, and they have to be fairly enforced. When corruption is allowed to fester, it breaks those rules, chooses to not enforce them, or replaces them with corrupt rules which break the system for the benefit of the few. But this happens in any economic system. There is no system which magically prevents human nature. The only way to avoid corruption is with constant vigilance, which means doing whatever it takes if it comes to that, even if it causes you short term loss, and an unwavering set of shared values. The West is falling apart because it has been socially diluted, its value system eroded and fragmented, and because people would rather watch things crumble if it means another day of convenience, rather than step up and do what needs to be done.

Why are the Japanese, who in their own country are staunchly anti-woke, pushing far left rhetoric in games? Especially when there are almost no examples of it being profitable and the few that exist are massively outweighed by the examples of it being massively unprofitable and highly detrimental to brand sentiment.

HR doesn’t set the pay and rarely has anything to do with the job qualifications. These are set by the hiring manager or corporate policy or both when there’s a range the manager has to stay in. HR might add some fluff to requirements but I haven’t personally seen that before the case as they wouldn’t know what to list, they don’t know the needs of every role for every department. At best they could be using a bad template for each job type and that’s why you get a big list of wants, some of which conflict.

@aj.j5833 This happens a lot, and in government is usually a requirement. Happens a lot when orgs do RFPs for projects too. They hand the contract to a friend and waste the time and money of a dozen others to submit proposals to create the illusion of a fair process.

It’s good. They saved you hundreds in games and hundreds of hours you’d have wasted staring open mouthed at a screen. Now you’ve got an incentive to save and invest that money and spend a lot of time doing something useful to your life.

This is why you do some real research before you waste the money and understand that a job is to make a living first, and isn’t a hobby, so auto mechanics are projected to increase in demand, strong consider being an auto mechanic and don’t choose a field just because right now you think you have a passion for it. That’s what hobbies are for. Probably a third of degrees are for no-job, personal interest fields, or uselessly ambiguous things like communications. I just can’t understand, with as easy as it is to research this stuff for free, that people just sign up for $150k of tuition just expecting there to be six figure jobs waiting after they graduate.

@Ben-q6uBecause game dev has been an over saturated job market for decades now. Nobody should be getting a degree to do game dev work thinking it’s not going to be very hard to land a job and when they do, that job will suck, because they can get away with awful conditions, because of over saturation.

@swagnamite1337 BA has been a useless degree for so long now. No idea why people don’t research this stuff before they sign up for it. Only use a biz admin degree has is if you’ve got a decade or more experience in management and need an actual degree to get past the gate keeping to join the C-suite somewhere.

@RedEyedMedia Why listen to someone who is a high school guidance counselor. What do they know. You have the entire internet to research with, mountains of first hand accounts of what things are like, tons of research into what jobs are rising and falling in demand, research into how to move to a country with a better job market if that’s what it takes.

Doesn’t help either when you import 50 million migrants, most of which are illegal, then wonder why there’s more workers than jobs and pay goes down. And somehow people can connect the dots to big companies supporting open borders and work visas.

@RancorSnp The number of competitors isn’t what’s relevant, it’s whether they’re competing or colluding. If you had only two producers for a product and they fixed prices to keep margins elevated, there’s a clear opportunity. Not every product or service has a high barrier to entry, and the higher the margins, the more barriers are reduced. You also don’t need anyone to be able to compete, just someone. Often times just one more competitor can make a massive difference.
