The Atlantic Slave Trade didn’t industrialize slavery to unseen heights, the Islamic Slave Trade was much larger and lasted much longer. It was a well oiled machine with both land and sea routes for transporting slaves and was more brutal than any other in recorded history. The Ottomans still had a legal slave trade until their empire collapsed in the 1920’s and a highly tolerated slave trade still exists in Islamic countries today

@robto It doesn’t make sense though. The whole “enemy of my enemy” thing only makes sense if it benefits you. Blindly supporting one awful group just because they oppose another awful group while you ignore your own problems is idiotic

@heaththeemissary3824 The Irish are considered Western, so saying they were colonized by the West is silly. Every group that isn’t a pure military has civilians. There are civilian casualties on both sides, not that it’s anyone’s business outside of that region to be picking sides. As for complaining about the British and UN splitting up some land between the Jews and Palestinians, I don’t see any of those same people saying Pakistan should go back to being part of India or that Iraq should no longer exist, or any of the other counties that are only a thing because the Brits redrew maps.

@TheAnagnostis Showing up for temple and other events is basically just a social club, it’s like that for a lot of Christians too

@robto I think there’s a lot more to it than, “I was oppressed so I support anyone who claims to be oppressed.” I think it’s a both a common enemy angle which is dumb in this case but all too common (see “Queers for Palestine” and similar), and the fact that corporate media oddly takes the side of Palestine despite the prevalence of Jewish influence in it, and the Palestinians not making any distinction in their rhetoric for if they’re secular or not.

There are people who don’t already know Vox is a far left propaganda mouthpiece? Lol

@bigtruefacts69 The Arabs only collaborated because they needed someone to dig up the oil under their feet and give them money for it
