  1. This essay didn’t transform anything, it’s basically just a rehash of part of lean startup methodology which was already trendy all over the startup scene at the time and before, this essay was written.

  2. Code tests don’t mean much. Especially the usual, “Code an algorithm to do X”. People just memorize these and you get someone who wasted tons of time learning how to code things they’ll never need to code instead of someone who spent time learning how to tackle real world problems, what solutions there are for real world functionality, their trade offs, etc. Maybe a simple code test on some real code of yours to weed out the fools, but that’s about it. Pay some nominal amount for their work so it’s fair and legal. And degrees mean nothing in programming, especially a PhD. Nobody wastes time getting one unless they want to teach or couldn’t land a job so just dragged out school as long as they could.
