If India had not been weak and dysfunctional it wouldn’t have fallen to a small country nearly half a world away. Strong, functional nations were never able to be colonized by European countries. Sure, there was superiority in European weapons, training, and tactics, which is very important, but you can’t take over and hold a large nation with a large population with a handful of men unless there is major dysfunction.

People forget that the US didn’t appear out of nothing. It was a delicate formation of a fairly long established set of various groups who were all, even if opposed to slavery, well accustomed to it as was all of humanity for almost all of human history. Trying to instantly do a 180 on slavery was never going to happen. It was always going to be a process, especially for a newly formed country that had a hundred other things to sort out.

Colonialism isn’t a single thing. Different colonizations operated differently. So it doesn’t make sense to say that conquering foreign soil is anti-capitalist. Most of colonization in history occurred before capitalism was even a thing. But I get what you’re saying and yeah, any form of monopoly is anti-capitalist, whether it’s by your government, a foreign invading one, or a corporation.

It’s funny how nobody cares that Africans kicked out scores of foreign immigrants who made Africa significantly better, yet it’s “racist” to want to kick out illegal economic migrants from western nations who are making things there significantly worse.

No different than all these environmentalists today who use oil and contribute to greenhouse emissions. Even the ones who aren’t doing it as a grift and truly believe in cleaning and protecting the environment see that it’s impossible to be completely beholden to an ideology when the whole world around you is doing the opposite. Then there’s the angle that you have to decide if you’re doing more good in the long run by using the resources of the broken system to change that system or not. If making yourself poor and powerless to feel good that you stuck to your morals means you can’t fight to fix the larger problem, you’re just doing it for yourself. It’s a slippery slope for sure but reality rarely presents ideal paths out of complex situations. Like this video said, if Jefferson hadn’t done what he had to work against slavery, along with the other prominent opponents of it, it would have not only continued but expanded. So a few hundred slaves would have been set free so a handful of men could feel good about their convictions while millions more slaves would be condemned. And if slavery had spread to all the states, it’s likely those free’d slaves would have found themselves slaves again, so you wouldn’t even have that small sliver lining

@RDesai_indiancapitalist I think it’s fine to study it from a historical, political, and economic view. There’s a lot to learn from. But if people are using it to claim victimhood, that’s just being a con artist. No empire was built without conquest, everyone can claim to be a victim if they go far enough back in their family history. And anyone can find someone in their past who benefited from conquest in some way. If it happened to you, you’re a victim, but trying to get attention or special treatment off the misfortune of others is pretty low.
