  2.  @kencress3665  You look at countries with low welfare support options but have a good amount of charity through religious venues or whatnot and you generally see people are far more self reliant, very low unemployment. Thailand is a prime example, usually in the top 3 lowest unemployment rates in the world, even the poor aren’t starving, you have homeless but it’s a fraction of what you see in places like California and most of them are mentally ill ot drug addicted and not homeless due to finances. But Thailand also doesn’t care about over regulating small businesses so it’s easily for even a poor person to start some tiny business selling food on the side of the street. The US over regulates everything so only large businesses can make real money. If you can’t get a good job then it’s almost impossible to start a business due to costs and regulations. You have to spend like $15k to go to a school just to pay to get a license just to cut someone’s hair
