  1. Apple,and Google both copied these. They call them widgets but they’re also icons for their apps and can provide rich notifications, so same thing. Tiles never made sense on the desktop, widgets have been there for decades and never caught on. Tiles didn’t fail on Windows Phone, Windows Phone failed because MS wasted billions on terrible ads instead of spending that money to get devs to port all the most popular apps to the platform,
