Been going on for years and years and it’s just a rip off of how companies will sell the exact same thing under multiple brands or even supposedly different versions of the same brand, even though there’s no difference. Like how they’ll sell the same painkiller but in a bottle that says “For migraines”, or the same toothpaste in 5 different package designs claiming to be for whitening, gum care, tartar control, etc.

@nightinabigail Has nothing to do with capitalism. Greed is inherent in human nature and exists in all forms of economics. The issue is widespread corruption failing to implement and diligently enforce effective and fair regulation.

@Dougiewoof That’s basically the business model of Supreme.

@sari9645 Don’t think you really understand what convince means. It’s not about being able to do so,etching you otherwise can’t, or without overbearing effort, it’s about bringing effort as close to zero as possible. That just creates mental and physical atrophy.

Everything about it is deeply unsettling
3
@RookMettle Why? It’s nothing new. People have gotten married to anime pillows, people talk to plants.

You’re 27? Jesus, that’s a hard 27. Whatever you’re doing, everything you’re doing, do the opposite, now.

Just go shopping as soon as they open. We all know the species that likes to rob doesn’t wake up before noon.

It’s not even confident, that’s the sad part. Any trivial bit of time saved gets wasted on mindless media consumption, and small effort saved just makes you less fit.
2
@danielwesterlund1905 Yeah it makes nothing easier, not even wasting $4000.

@DackRedd The main issue is it’s an inherently inefficient, unprofitable business model. Same with ride sharing. Even before min wages and benefits and gov regulation, Uber didn’t turn a profit. They’re all just hoping to gain enough market share that they can make money off selling higher margin offerings, selling private data, and staying alive until self driving cars let them dump the expensive drivers.

@James-ly3wf Nobody with even one kid, much less multiple, should be working a minimum wage wage job. They were never meant to support people who made bad life choices and decided to have kids and/or live in expensive areas without first gaining the skills for a real career.

@DuckTheFinn Are you suggesting that greed isn’t real and we’ve been gaslit or that people only exhibit greed because people think greed is a common human trait?

@redwiltshire1816 The Quest 2 was super affordable, still a gimmick. Upping the screen resolution doesn’t make it less of one, at any price.
1
@redwiltshire1816 Huh?
1
@redwiltshire1816 What does a controller have to do with it? The Quest 2 was cheap for what it was. Could get one for under $200 and far less used, and there’s a lot of used ones for sale. I don’t think having $120-200 to blow on a gadget requires being rich.

@melonfiend8309 The poor and illegals

@DackRedd Yeah, that’s the only way they can operate is to subsidize the service with investor cash. Some of these companies will post a slightly profitable quarter, like Grab having one. Uber had one year of profits. But these are nothing compared to the money they’ve burnt. Sure, if most of the money is coming from VCs then let it burn.

@YellaSpiceFamily Eugenics is about genetics, not income you fool. Learn what words mean before abusing them. And yes, people who can’t afford to raise kids, shouldn’t have kids. How is that not obvious. Or do you think it’s moral and responsible to have kids knowing you can’t feed them, get them medical attention when they’re sick, or educate them. I guess you think it’s fine to just have kids as a source of free labor and a retirement plan for the parents, which is the primary reason to have kids in many parts of the world.

Only talking to you because some lazy dev is charging you to put a cheap UI on ChatGPT designed for simps

@gunnarpoker2827 No, people are a lot more isolated and antisocial now. Just because there have always been lonely people doesn’t mean things aren’t getting worse. And passively watching content is nothing at all like being deluded into thinking you have a real relationship, which is what these fake gf apps are meant to do. The people you watch in movies, shows, or streams, aren’t interacting with you in any tangible way, if at all, short of OF thots or scammers trying to empty your bank account.

@DuckTheFinn Except greed has been seen as a profoundly destructive and pervasive element of human nature for all of recorded history. Thousands of years before “our culture” existed, before capitalism existed. Our economy doesn’t require constant growth in profits, it incentivizes it. Economics fits the conditions, it’s why we have boom and bust cycles.Most of economics is just figuring out how to try and predict these cycles. Profits at all costs is harmful and unsustainable but it didn’t develop as as result of any modern culture. This mentality has been a staple of countless cultures for all of human history, it just operated under different economic systems such as mercantilism and autocracy. And it saw no decline under the many versions of socialism. It’s was the driving force behind empire building, and many, if not most, wars in general. Hyper-capitalism is a contemporary take on empire building. Swapping kings for CEOs. It doesn’t happen because our culture encourages greed, it happens because our corrupt governments fail to combat the greed.
