@booda51 In my country (the netherlands) that's impossible. Guns are so illegal here, that even in the criminal circuit it is hard to get one, you might be an undercover cop. The only (also illegal) sort of defense i can do is transfer my former competition epee back to a weapon by cutting off the protective tip and sharpen it. I am a fencer so i know how to handle this. I have no chance against a gun, but most burglars here show up with a knife, which is no match for a 3 foot epee blade.

@TammieBuckeye It is, i know that from victims in my family. They end up with moving to another place.
