For decades they owned the strongest sea tugs of the world, often especially made to for their operations. But also heavy lifting. Smit Tak is an old company merged in 1949 from 2 companies that were specialized in maritime transport and salvage, L. Smit & Co. Sleepdienst (1842) and Bergings en Transportbedrijf W. A. Tak (1905) 2: Stoof Breda, heavy transport on land. This is an old company (1927) started in the early days of the truck itself. After the war (WW-2 is called "the war" (de oorlog) in the netherlands) they specialized in oversized transport with surplus US Army wreckers and trailers. 3: Van Seumeren, a company dedicated to heavy and extreme lifting on land. Also a very old company (1807). For a long time they were pioneering in large, road legal telescopic cranes. Later the British company ALE, Abnormal Load Engineering UK (1983) joined Mammoet. Except for ALE, the roots of all companies goes back tot he early days of the industrial revolution. A ton of experience, and that is what makes this company so special and why you see them operating world wide. If Mammoet can't transport it is untransportable.

The truck that carry this unit can drop it off and go back to get other equipment like large pumps or containers with equipment. Our firetrucks don't have a siren but a very powerful twin tone air horn. The black Volvo and BMW police cars are unmarked vehicles mainly used by detectives and swat like teams. The "normal" cars in fire colors and striping are used for transport of extra commanders or specialized commanders for certain types of fires. They are also used by a specialized firefighters that goes down wind of big fires to measure if there are toxic fumes around.

Hmm, look like a dutch license plate. But in the era of this car, dutch license plates were dark blue with white writing. The french plates at the time were black with silver outlining and writing. The yellow plates were first seen in 1978 in the netherlands.

The 2CV was born after the war as a multi purpose all terrain vehicle in a era of shortage of steel caused by WW-2 and had to be as cheap as possible as the people had almost no money, also caused by the same war. The advertisement claimed at was possible to safe transport a box with eggs through a plowed land. It is tried and indeed the 2CV could pull that off.... In the Netherlands, you can still see them on the roads at summer days.

The new 100km/h rule has nothing to with safety, it is just to please the environment wokies. Securing cargo, make no mistake, its only done to avoid the expensive fines. Before this rule, it was a mess too, just like in the US.

Maybe about the dutch trailer heaven. You see trailers everywhere en we dutch put them behind everything. Everything, included but not limited to: trucks, semi's, bicycles, station cars, small family cars, vans, jeeps, Ferrari's, kids go-carts, quads, motorcycles, mopeds, tractors, other trailers and one day probably behind aircraft too. In the Netherlands there is no street without at least one trailer. You cant ride 10 minutes here without seeing a trailer. We love to haul all kinds of stuff around. And they are sold so much that you can even see trailers loaded with trailers. We have lots of companies making and selling trailers. On every business park were they sell cars, there sure is someone who sell trailers and trailers only. And the kinds of trailers you see here, high flat bed trailers, low flat bed trailers, boat trailers, tipper trailers, horse trailers, boat trailers, sheep trailers, heavy duty construction trailers, boat trailers, bicycle trailers, motorcycle trailers, boat trailers, universal trailers, road sign trailers, led-matrix trailers, boat trailers, box trailers, boat trailers, dog trailers, food trailers, cherry picker trailers, boat trailers, piano trailers, compressor trailers, diesel generator trailers, boat trailers, light post trailers and more, a lot more. Did i mention boat trailers? They are a plague here. You can sail a boat and we have a country full of water, so lets haul our boats on the streets shall we? We have more trailers then the entire rest of the world.

The car is way outdated now, but after the war with shortage of steel and low incomes of the people, this was an outstanding idea to survive as car manufacturer. Back those days people were different. Less hasty and claiming, which result in a much safer traffic. Accidents those days were real accidents. Nowadays accidents are mostly caused by our haste and the "me, myself and I" way of thinking.

But this is a strange world were one company take over the other and then sell parts of it, so there are a lot more companies involved like ALE you see on this video. The dutch heavy lifting and transport specialists started in may 1807 by the 25 years old Jan Goedkoop who bought a 140 metric ton ship for heavy cargo. In the early days of the industrial revolution he saw the need of heavy transport and lifting, especially on sea. He was the first on the world who got into heavy sea tugs. (note: heavy sea tugs at the day was a mere bathtub with a diesel engine compare what we call sea tugs today)

Al that what you are so amazed about is because we have mandatory drivers education you have to pay yourself and does not come cheap. About 3000 - 4000 dollar before you got your licence. Drivers schools has to be government licensed too, so one cant start a drivers school from one day to the other. The effect of this mandatory lessons can be seen in videos like this compare to the US.
