As a mechanic, i consider a machine to a robot when it can complete a task autonomous. When it is controlled, both tethered or by radio control, it must be able to complete it's taks when no one is behind the controller. If not, you can call everything a robot, which includes my radio controlled model helicopter. But when i let the sticks of the controller go, it will crash, so it is not a robot. My DJI Neo drone on the other hand, is able to perform and complete 6 different tasks without any kind of controller, fly back to me position itself in front of my face, and wait until i hold up a openend hand. He will fly to it, land in my hand and shut down his motors. That is actually a robot. He perform the chosen task without any kind of human input other than push the button for that task once.
