What also is overlooked is that you have to seal your house in about a hand full of seconds.

@abringering2164 With a single bomb that is, nuclear war is automated. I will not be one bomb, it will many. An awful lot of many.

@stanleyfranks9891 You can't really compare that. A Russian Tsar Bomba, fully loaded tot it's yield of 150 megaton wil not destroy cities, it destroy entire states.

Former army medic here, your chances to survive are next to non. Unless you live in a shelter 24-7. Or are lightning fast in your decisions and moves, own a Ferrari that is constantly on stand by with a full fuel tank, and the roads are empty. If you are afraid of atomic weapons, i advice people to live in a target city. On ground zero you will never know a nuclear bomb has exploded. You will be vaporized in about a 10.000 of a second. That's way faster then the pain signal goes through your body. People suffer more from being afraid of a nuclear war. That fear takes over their entire life. In the end of the day there is no safe spot on this planet when the first madman push the button. The war is over in 4,5 hours and the northern hemisphere is gone. Mankind is over en the next 2 weeks. World wide. So you better of living on ground zero.
