Military superpower without an economy is a recipe for disaster. USSR collapsed because it's economy couldn't support it's humongous military. Pakistan too is in a similar predicament. In fact, one of the reason why Pakistan broke into 2 in 1971 was 70% of it's military spending was financed by draining the economy of East Pakistan aka Bangladesh dry. India too is heading in a direction where our economy is unable to support our defense spending.

@Swasti Your perspective on role of Ukraine in WW2 is not complete. Fact is, Stalin starved to death millions of Ukrainians in 1932. The Ukrainians considered the Nazis as the liberators. A large number of Ukrainians were fighting for the Nazis. In fact, Hitler's troops couldn't retreat fast enough when they were losing the war in the eastern front because the roads were clogged with Ukrainian refugees fleeing from the advancing Soviet troops. Many of the concentration camps guards were Ukrainians.

@Sunny-cy5ei your company's turnover maybe several crores but if you are running at a loss then you have no money for expansion. Similarly, GDP is the sum total of the goods and services produced in a year not the money in your hand. Money in the hand of the government is the budget of which defense and allied activities like police paramilitary coast guard etc accounts for 25 to 40% of the budget.
