The Tejas was conceived in the 70s as a replacement for point defense Mig21 interceptor fighters. Tejas took its final shape in the 80s and the first flight took place in early 2000. Since then, the role of light point defense fighters has become redundant with the introduction of systems like Iron Dome, THAAD, Patriot, S400 etc. Forget 5th generation fighters, Tejas cannot be used against the formidable Su27/30 fighters and its derivatives in the PLAAF. Tejas can be compared with the Chinese J10. The corrupt IAF from the very beginning was trying to sabotage the Tejas program by changing the specs whenever any prototype reached IOC stage. Thereby delaying the project. It was due to pressure from an IITian Manohar Parriker that IAF was forced to order the Tejas. HAL is only assembling Tejas as Modi sarkar has forced HAL to handover manufacturing parts of Tejas to several private companies like Adani who have no connection with aerospace engineering. Thereby not only creating inefficiency but astronomically increasing the cost of the fighter. Neither the CAG nor the opposition talks about this.
