holyhelo5speak You're correct. The reason we probably haven't made progress, and maybe never will, is because something as confounding as reality can't be downloaded into everyday language. I had to think about that one for a while, but if reality is mysterious and confounding, how do you put it into mere words? That's the first hurdle, and second hurdle is the dichotomy of objectivism vs solipsism, or that we already know that a perceived reality exists in conjunction with awareness. this is self-evident and requires no evidence. But to assert that some kind of reality exists independant of awareness is an affirmation that does require evidence (faith). The burdeon of proof lies in objectivism.

Brian Fletcher That's exactly who I thought about when he quoted that. TM is one of my favorites as well as you can probably tell by my channel XD.

David Chen Nope...because the underlying theory boils down to the dichotomoy of objectivism vs solopism, or to put it in the words of another youtuber, what science says is "give us one freee miracle, and we'll take it from there."

Julian Walker I get what you're saying... and you're right, man, these discussions are kinda tricky. They're very tricky actually, and the trickier and more complex they are, the more likely they are to be misinterpreted.

***** I think we're on the same page if I'm not mistaken regarding faith. What I was trying to say is exactly that science, not unlike religion, requires faith in many different areas if you are to take it seriously.

David Chen Fair enough, I think I would have to agree with that :-)

Julian Walker IMO, good points, but there are a few unverifiable claims in there as well. Do you believe that reality exists independent of human consicousness? On a side note- if you believe that normative brain chemistry is dependant on neuro-transmitters like 5- hydroxytriptamine, psilocybin and DMT are very close relatives. If reality exists independent of normative brain chemistry, the basic fallacy is to assume that the world is for us, and therefore we should be able to udnerstand it. But what is an idea of reality devised and perceived through our language without the immediate sensory experience of human biology?

Julian Walker Nice channel BTW. I do some beginner yoga poses. I took a quick glances at some of your vids and I like the material so I think I'm gonna take a more thorough look.
