Also notice that he says God permits evil for the greater good, and then that good comes, but then he permits more evil so more good can come., etc, etc... But notice that the evil never stops.

@markreynolds7890 That is true...but I'm not sold on that explanation. God can't think of a better way to achieve the greater good?

Exactly! I may not lose faith if you tell me that an innocent child has to deal with bone cancer- but a child being sexually abused or tortured is pushing the boundaries. I don't understand it- it only leaves me to one ugly conclusion- God doesn't exist...so why do I keep walking the spiritual path?

@testing6753 I feel the same way about a higher power. My family is Roman Catholic but I have studied most of the religions of the world hoping to find an answer. For me, Buddhism and Hinduism seems to make the most sense, and yet, being raised Roman Catholic, sometimes I find myself wondering if Christianity is right, what will God think of me if I put other Gods before him. I haven't completely ruled out Christianity, but the older I get the more it confusing it seems.

@testing6753 I think you're right, the self righteousness is what kills it for most Atheists. If you want to watch a spectacular movie on this very subject, check out Silence. It's not exactly new, I think it was filmed in 2016, but it's a masterpiece in my opinion, and rightly so, it was filmed by Martin Scorsese. I thought I had seen all of his films. Anyway, it's based on historical events and takes place when Europe was trying to spread Christianity in Japan in the 15th century (In Japan it was forbidden at the time). People would practice in secrecy and if found they'd be tortured or killed unless they renounced Jesus Christ.

@testing6753 My pleasure. I think we're all here to help, and thank you for the kind words.

@testing6753 Rightly said. I'm glad you enjoyed the movie. Lately I've been finding new light in the old testament...I don't know If I'd go as far as saying I'm a born again Christian, but I feel like I'm moving in that direction...all because of this one guy who's making me see the scriptures from a different perspective, maybe a truer perspective.

But he also justifies sacrificing individuals via the greatest atrocities, suffering and evil imaginable for the greater good. How would you feel if that individual was one of your family members? Shit man, find another way to advance the greater good.

@markreynolds7890 I'm just trying to make a point that I don't think a Christian God exists... I could be wrong, but I don't think that's the case. I think Buddhism might be closer to the truth.

@markreynolds7890 Hinduism has many gods. The reason for this from what I’ve read is because each person identifies with a particular god in their spiritual path.
