He's stating something that ancient sages discovered through deep meditation thousands of years ago..Consciousness creates duality. It doesn't mean that the world is not real or is an illusion, the illusion is the sense of separateness.

@fluentpiffle Indeed we have a very narrow view of reality...We see what we are meant to see, nothing less nothing more, unfortunately it doesn't answer all the "why" we have asked throughout history. Terence McKenna used to say, "it's irrational to think that reality should be rationally apprehendable." It's quantum dynamics and chaos.

@fluentpiffle In all honesty... I don't believe we'll every fully understand the depths of our reality... I think reality is ineffable. All the people we've been quoting offer us road maps. They were as intelligent as we are today and we've been asking those questions since the dawn of time... I take it you already know that. For me...I think the best way I have found for understanding our reality and thus the self...is self observation. A few hours a deep meditation or psychedelic introspection (if that's your thing) can offer an elucidation that for some would require a lifetime and devotion of scientific study. Not here to promote anything, but the GIta is a great guide for meditation. If you want to understand the self, it can show us how.

@fluentpiffle How do you know when truth is being observed? I guess that's the kicker. There's a great quote from Cus D'amato...that was Mike Tyson's trainer. The guy was actually kind of brilliant. He said, "I don't allow myself to be influenced by people unless they can influence me with facts."

@fluentpiffle yeah, that’s part of it. Truth is a slippery creature. Often you discover a truth and realize there’s a deeper truth hidden underneath, so on and so forth. Nothing beats personal experience through meditative practices, I hate having to keep spouting that, but it’s the only thing that cuts through the bullshit, including language, which can sometimes be misleading. But when a truth is revealed to you outside of the mercurial language, it’s a different animal
