  1. The same thing happens when you fast for extended periods....20-40 days...body goes into repair mode.

  2.  @stevegwizzle3560  Look up the benefits of fasting.Not sure why it happens in space, but what he described is what happens when we fast. When your body isn't using up all its energy resources to digest food, that energy gets diverted into repairing broken DNA polymers and flushing out toxins out of the body.
