I think deep down inside, more people believe in a higher power than are willing to admit. For example, people who believe in aliens, in my opinion, are probably people who denounced christianity or have Atheistic beliefs. The Alien is just a modern iteration of God. I think the driving force for most people is the fear of death.

+Stellar Aevum I've heard others make this argument... about the Alien being a modern version of God. I wish I could remember who I heard it from the first time, because he made a convincing argument. It makes sense if you think about it though, because we're always looking up to the sky for answers. I've given up my Christian religious beliefs a while back, although I do believe that reality is more than it appears to be and I believe in a higher power, if you want to call it that, but in the spiritual sense. I don't know what that power is, or what to make of it, or if it's even an intelligent power, but my intuition tells me there's something there, although lately I've taken up an interest in the Qur'an, I'm just slightly curious.

I think that's a safe bet. Most of the compounds that make up organic life are also abundant throughout the universe, so all the pieces are there, all that is needed is a catalyst such as a planet that can sustain life. But life may also be abundant on planets which we would consider uninhabitable. The kicker, is that now it seems there are more planets than there are stars in the universe. Think of the possibilities.
