There's this guy by the name of Emmanuel Velikovsky who wrote a book called Worlds in Collision and Earth in Upheaval back in the 50's posing the theory that Venus was one of Jupiter's moons and was hit by another planet, ejecting Venus from Jupiter's orbit and landing it where it is today, but during that phase transition, which he puts at 12,000 years ago, the Earth went through chaotic changes.
