They misjudged American industry by about 2 years though, they predicted the US industry wouldn't max out until 1945. Turned out the US maxed out by 1943.

@hedgehog3180 Alot of their problems also came from you know, being in a massive land war with another large country. The USA would also have had problems with industry if say, it needed 5 million men to invade China with. If Germany didn't invade the USSR then their industry would have been fine and perfectly capable.

Because in Britain, especially at such public events you are only ever going to hear the popular and obviously one sided version of history. You aren't going to get someone going on stage to talk about the criminality of the Allies, the Churchillian seizure of power or the appeasement myth and how actually the British wanted to stimulate tensions between Poland and Germany.

No one is forced to watch videos of history of which they find interesting and entertaining. I might add that the best teachers make their lessons entertaining or interesting.

@lukeueda-sarson6732 Dr. David Starkey made the point in one of his videos, that the reason he is a historian is because he is interested and entertained by history, after all why be a historian if you are not interested and entertained by it? I believe and know that things can be educational as well as entertaining. You obviously seem to believe that things can't possibly be entertaining and educational at the same time, it has to either be educational or entertaining. So let's just leave the discussion there, ok.

@aBoughtLemon Britain was crucial to both wars. No British involvement in WW1 would have meant France losing in 1914. Even if France still managed to defeat the Germans in 1914, they would not have been able to resist the German offensives throughout the next 2-3 years. Even with millions of British soldiers launching offensives to alleviate French positions at Verdun, the French still nearly revolted in 1917. And WW2 of course without Britain, there's no WW2.

Chamberlain's original strategy was mostly an economic war against Germany, he was told and urged by the warmongers that Germany would revolt and collapse if only Britain declared war, as we saw it didn't. He then planned on invading Norway and Sweden to choke Germany of its war supplies whilst France would fight off the German attack. As we saw also, the Germans beat the British to Norway by a few days if not hours. As the commander of the invading force boasted about how "the Germans missed the bus".

Even 70 years later we're still massively debating possible alternate courses of action for the war. It's no wonder why the Austrian Painter was so stressed. For example it still is quite difficult to see how capturing the Suez would have really helped the Germans. All that does is force allied shipping to take a longer route around the whole of Africa. How exactly does that destroy the British war effort ? On the contrary, just recently I thought that actually having the Germans spread out across Africa, could that have helped a potential allied landing in France in 1942 or 43 ? Invading Russia IMO isn't the worst decision he made, again there are countless alternate routes and decisions that could have affected it's outcome or at least course, but I think Schmider would also agree, it was really declaring war on the USA WHILST ALSO being at war with Russia that was the killer.

"No plan survives first contact with the enemy" or something like that. Artist from Vienna can have long term or general ideas but cannot possibly have any "plan" to achieve them, so of course most of his decisions were reactionary. For example his original "plan" was to have a joint German-Polish war against the USSR without being involved in any war with France or Britain. Things happened, he reacted to them and made decisions he would have preferred not to take (such as declaring war on USA). That's how reality goes.
