Comments by "AFGuidesHD" (@AFGuidesHD) on "Why Hitler declared War on the USA" video.
It's tragic have many people comment before even watching the video lol Schmider absolutely spells it out hat Hitler was not "insane" nor was he "stupid and underestimated America".

The real history is very fascinating "Hitler was torn between war and an off ramp". Could he have chosen war due to all his previous off-ramps being rejected by the British ? It would have been quite interesting and also damaging for Germany, if they tried to offer an off-ramp with the Anglo-Americans just as Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. Though as it turned out, it actually wouldn't have mattered. The German-Japanese alliance didn't seem to do all that much.

too bad he only does them in non public settings i.e. Sandhurst and MOD. This channel should bring him on more if possible.

@Reiman33 "Winston Churchill was not going to negotiate with the Germans. Period. The end." Which is likely why Hitler veered towards war instead of making yet another peace offer.

"That Hitler's decisions were all rational, intelligent and considered based on a full analysis of reasoned arguments for and against" Because they were. Of course they would become less and less so the more Germany's situation became dire but in 1941 he was of sound mind and not the "irrational, mentally ill, crackhead" that popular western historians paint him as. "made a simple, quick, choice" yes but Schmider mentioned, this was after an agreement with the Japanese and a year of increasing tensions with the US, had he not declared war then the US probably would have done so a few months later anyway and Germany would have lost capital with the Japanese.

And what do you think their "crazy ideology" was? Because their ideology wasn't "war with america".

@bobthompson4133 >read original sources not the textbooks with a narrative used today. >I read many interesting papers in the imperial war museum 🤔

As Schmider basically says in his book. Invading the USSR wasn't a terrible idea, but invading the USSR and declaring war on USA at the same time as also fighting the British Empire, well that was disastrous as we saw.

They misjudged American industry by about 2 years though, they predicted the US industry wouldn't max out until 1945. Turned out the US maxed out by 1943.

Yes but if you watch the video Klaus explains how Germany tried to avoid war throughout this period.

@MilitaryHistoryVisualized Speaking of Memory, what is your opinion of Otto Wagner's "Memoirs of a Confidant" ? How accurate do you think one can recall a 15 year old conversation ?
1
@MilitaryHistoryVisualized Well it's very interesting to read, particularly when it comes to "Hitler's plans" regarding a European Union from 1936.

@MilitaryHistoryVisualized what do they call it ?

@tb8865 "Defend Europe against who?" America and Russia. "But America would never attack Europe" It's very easy to think this in a timeline where America subjugated and plundered Europe. However in a timeline where Europe unites against American interests, this could well have been the case.

Private Hitler: Arrgghh ffs what a nightmare, I don't really want war. pulls hair out kicks the door. Public Hitler: I have long sought this fight and am strongly and firmly ready to fight the warmongering US who have been arming our enemies for a long time now.

Even 70 years later we're still massively debating possible alternate courses of action for the war. It's no wonder why the Austrian Painter was so stressed. For example it still is quite difficult to see how capturing the Suez would have really helped the Germans. All that does is force allied shipping to take a longer route around the whole of Africa. How exactly does that destroy the British war effort ? On the contrary, just recently I thought that actually having the Germans spread out across Africa, could that have helped a potential allied landing in France in 1942 or 43 ? Invading Russia IMO isn't the worst decision he made, again there are countless alternate routes and decisions that could have affected it's outcome or at least course, but I think Schmider would also agree, it was really declaring war on the USA WHILST ALSO being at war with Russia that was the killer.

"No plan survives first contact with the enemy" or something like that. Artist from Vienna can have long term or general ideas but cannot possibly have any "plan" to achieve them, so of course most of his decisions were reactionary. For example his original "plan" was to have a joint German-Polish war against the USSR without being involved in any war with France or Britain. Things happened, he reacted to them and made decisions he would have preferred not to take (such as declaring war on USA). That's how reality goes.
