  2. problem is the whole "single military power" thing, where does this military power come from ? Latvia, Norway ? Or another country that we launched 2 world wars against specifically to prevent it from uniting Europe ? As AJP Taylor said, the first and only time Europe was united was in June 1940.

Tragically this was the very thinking of "the appeasers", unfortunately the whole Versailles Treaty revision and "we can't let Germany fight Russia without fighting us first" thing championed so vigorously by Churchill got in the way of Anglo-European cooperation.
