We can still send all our gold and navy to America and ignore all our boys who have now been captured" isn't really that inspiring to be honest. No one can ever tell the morale impact of losing the BEF, I think Churchill said as much it was mostly a morale victory rather than military.

So even in a defeat Britain wouldn't actually lose as much as it did in "victory"
